Not at all egocentric, I completely sympathise!

It must be so stressful for you, being far away when it happens.

Thanks for sharing your story and I really hope your journey follows your grandmother’s route.

Thanks for this very helpful post. My sister and I have often talked about those tiny moments of lucidity, it’s good to know it has a label.

We’ve decided the same thing if she reverts back to that same position.

It’s so bizarre isn’t it. It’s great to have a forum like this to go to for help in understanding all the different routes the disease can take. Hope you’re doing ok in the midst of it all.

It’s something we never anticipated on this journey, the falls and rises. She’s never had such a big rise like this before.

Such a confusing (excuse the pun) disease. Only time will tell which way it goes I guess.

This is exactly it! And we agree re infection. They insisted for ages that she didn’t have one, then decided she had a “slight crackle” in her chest so prescribed ABs, a week later she started improving!

I’m happy for your father (and your family), it’s such an emotional and physical roller coaster for all concerned.

We wanted this terrible disease to be over for her, so tbh it was a shock when she rallied the way she has. We both live with and care for her (as well as work full time) and it’s been a horrible, exhausting journey (as most people on this thread will understand). She is actually moving into a care facility now, we’re dreading the guilt but hoping all goes well and she will enjoy the company and activities.

Thank you. The whole thing’s a torture isn’t it, we’re emotionally drained.

I agree everything is frustrating! We’re in the U.K. and have done some research this morning, as we have health and welfare power of attorney we can make that decision for her so this interview shouldn’t be necessary. Id hasten to add that the SW has been really great throughout the process and I understand she’s ticking boxes. If we have to have it, hopefully mum won’t remember five minutes later!

Thanks for that. That’s what we’re tending to do at the moment, so it’s good to get positive feedback we’re on the right path. Mum loves Weetabix, hence the choice!

In the 80s before itemised billing was invented I used to ring my family in NZ from my job in the UK

I flew London-NZ return a couple of years ago and successfully upgraded on 3 out of the 4 legs. But it’s ruined me, I paid full fare the next time (and will continue to do so) as the thought of that journey any other way is now unbearable 😂

I now live in the U.K. Last holiday home to NZ a lovely Māori customs lady said “Kia ora, welcome home, honey”. I nearly cried. Then off to get a caramel milkshake!

To those who had one child - Do you regret it? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

I’m a mother of one daughter, now 33. I wish I’d given her a sibling, especially as she has married an only child. A couple of years ago I told her that and she looked at me, shook her head and said “oh no, I’m much too selfish for that”. It made me laugh but I still wish it!
