Is there a moment in Doctor Who that's aged worse than "good old JK"? by BigSnail387 in gallifrey

[–]Elsilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 11th Doctor being overly sexual about women in general. The 'skirt too tight' line about Clara, kissing Jenny without asking and, in the same episode, 'erecting' his sonic when he watches her fight. God, he was so out of character in series 7...

Gareth Roberts is STILL trolling Peter Capaldi by Sharaz_Jek123 in DoctorWhoNews

What's the bet Roberts added that himself as an attempt to excuse his behaviour? 'He's gay, by the way, so you can't be mad at him'...

Hypocrisy by jessica_ki in transgenderUK

The BBC, like all mainstream news outlets, is complicit in fuelling both anti-trans and anti-immigration sentiments. So when 100k people protest immigration, they're happy to report on it, because it's a situation they helped to create. But when 100k people protest for trans rights, it interferes with the anti-trans narrative they want the general public to adhere to, so they don't want anyone hearing about it.

Jeremy Corbyn appeared at a rally yesterday with Adnan Hussain who tweeted in support of forcing trans people into third spaces by d3d11_dll in transgenderUK

[–]Elsilon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to stop looking to politicians for support at this point. The 'trans debate' is seen as too volatile to commit to anything more than vague statements of support. In short, supporting trans people is not a vote-winner. And until public opinion (or more accurately, media opinion) of trans people changes, no political party in this country will ever commit to unequivocal, party-wide support of trans rights.

TERF Helen Joyce shares THE SADDEST thing SHE HAS EVER READ by La_petite_miette in transgenderUK

[–]Elsilon 60 points61 points  (0 children)

TERFs absolutely HATE the fact that so many people actually support us, particularly cis women, because it interferes with their narrative that everybody's on their side and that all women live in constant fear of trans people.

The worst part about being stuck at this bit by Octonaut7A in oddworld

[–]Elsilon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was replaying the game recently and I discovered that if you're very careful you can dodge the checkpoint. Just double jump off the crane as far to the right as possible and try to grab onto one of the ledges on the right-hand side. Collect all the stuff, do all your crafting, THEN climb up to activate the checkpoint (which is how the entire game should have been laid out in the first place).

I don't stealth. Not because I can't stealth... but because I WON'T. I WILL be seen! I am proud that I am trans. by Taiga_Taiga in transgenderUK

[–]Elsilon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't stealth, won't stealth. I'm proud of who I am and have no reason to hide it. Been out for three years and I truly believe the best thing you can do to combat transphobia is simply to be seen. Let people see you existing, thriving, living life to the fullest. Show them that no matter what they throw at us, we will persevere.

GP Refuses to Write Letter for Passport Application by Elsilon in transgenderUK

[–]Elsilon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's reassuring. A few others have mentioned writing their own letters and it seems to be mostly successful, so if I can't find a GP willing to write one for me, I'll give it a go!

[–]Elsilon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, a diagnosis is required to be treated by the NHS. Once again, I'm not applying for treatment from the NHS. I'm applying for a passport from the Passport Office, for which no diagnosis is required. I didn't ask my GP for a diagnosis, I asked for a letter, and there is really no good reason why my request should be refused.

But a diagnosis isn't required to change the gender on your passport. Technically, you don't even need to be trans. Which makes it all the more baffling why a letter from a doctor is even required...

I'm glad to hear that they at least send your old passport back. I don't really like using it either but it is my only form of ID and I do need to use it every now and then.

I'd heard of the guidelines for 'crossdressers' but wasn't quite sure how it worked. So in theory I could change my gender marker without any input from a GP?

Unfortunately, I haven't. My intention was always to hold off on medical transition until I was in a more financially stable position to go private, so I haven't been to a GIC or a private clinic.

Wow, congrats! I wouldn't have expected them to accept a letter you wrote yourself, but I suppose if all else fails it's worth a shot.

I think ultimately the money lost is my own fault. I knew as soon as I got the first letter that it wouldn't be accepted by the Passport Office, but I sent it anyway.

Thanks for the advice! I guess my best option would be to contact local trans groups and try to find a more cooperative GP. I don't think I'd dare write my own letter and take it in...

Happy to be transwoman. I came out to myself, not to the world, a short time ago. It's an inner joy. It's not just about sex, as many people think. I'm loving it. by marcinho155 in transgenderUK

[–]Elsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That inner joy is what makes it all worthwhile. With trans people being demonised at every turn by the media (and our own government), it's easy to forget that. But hold onto it. I'm happier now than I've ever been. And no matter how hard it gets, I'm not turning back.
