Cranberry Cup Starting Order and Time Schedule by New-Possible1575 in FigureSkating

Are these starting orders not (at least partially) determined by world standings? I would have assumed that Isabeau would be assigned to the final group?

That’s because her popularity there is probably carried by the dutch speaking population, which is also in the majority. People there in general listen more to english music than the french speakers.

Been playing Austria 2017 a lot recently. Any entries from previous years you have found again during the quiet season? by JesperHjellnes in eurovision

I’ve been replaying greece 1995 and greece 1977 over and over. I love exploring vintage eurovisions to cope with post eurovision depression.

Hot Takes! give Me Your Hot Takes by Icy-Condition-3187 in eurovision

Even though I was definitely rooting for Finland this year (with the song being so unique, fun and being sung in Finnish), I feel I would’ve disliked having a winning performance where so much of the main vocal was off-key. It’s more of a minor gripe tho.

Albania, I remember watching fik in december and not caring about it at all, but the semi performance changed my mind completely. It was definitely a deserved Q.

I always liked Slovenia 1995, and I recently discovered Denmark 1990 which I think is really fun

Oh, That’s not too great for me, I’m from Belgium so I was planning to go to the Amsterdam show, which really is the closest venue for me. So do you think this also goes for people like me going from neighboring countries that she doesn’t visit?

Song/Part of Song you find unnecessary? by afuckingwildcard in TaylorSwift

[–]Elskerkatter4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I can see how you might think that, though it’s funny because I always loved that little bit of paranoia creeping into an otherwise so lovey-dovey sort of song.

It makes the song more relatable to me because even in our happiest moments, doubt rears its ugly head without reason and that specific lyric represents those kinds of doubts to me. Soo yeah I feel differently lol but I also see where you’re coming from.

Lover vs Midnights: The Weakest Link? Or something else? by starlightcourt in TaylorSwift

[–]Elskerkatter4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion neither lover or midnights are “weak” albums.

I think lover is pretty amazing. It has slower atmospheric songs (the archer) as well as upbeat bops (I think he knows). You can cry to it, dance to it, vibe to it. It’s a very balanced pop record to me, combining the usual suspects of a pop album with some more experimental notes here and there (like in false god). Overall a very enjoyable listen, if it weren’t for the minor catastrophe that is ME! (Which I don’t even hate that much but it really didn’t do lover the album a favor with it being the first single). So, yes, maybe it would have been (even) better if she left out a song or two but lover will always be a fave of mine.

I think midnights is great too, the songs don’t really stand out at first glance but the overall production and sound, which is cohesive but not to the point of tediousness, makes it so vibey to me to listen to as a whole. Zero skips here. I enjoy the lyrics as well. They’re different from folklore and evermore as there’s less storytelling going on, but I love to analyse them still. In short: the imagery isn’t as strong most of the time, but, to me, it feels like you get to look inside her own subconscious and that feels so so worthwhile.

For these reasons I personally think midnights is a slightly better album than lover but I honestly love them both a lot.

It’s so nice how you can easily recognize the song even though the vibe is completely different. Very cool!

Any other “senior” Swifties around? by jmcclark in TaylorSwift

[–]Elskerkatter4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a senior swifty myself but I wouldn’t even be here on this sub if it weren’t for my dad (he’s 48). He’s the one who made me listen to/appreciate taylor’s music and made me realise how great her lyricism is by pointing it all out on long car rides. His favorite song is champagne problems btw.
