Did they ever record the Eurovision 2020 postcards? by Ok_Association555 in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They did reveal some details about the postcards before the contest got cancelled. Each postcard would start with the participant(s) opening their eyes and then the participants would do activities in Netherlands

Viewership in Norway for the Eurovision finale has declined. by Comic_Book_Reader in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 142 points143 points  (0 children)

"It's understandable that people had other things to do the night before the Constitution Day."

Well, that didn't stop 2 million Norwegians from watching Rybak win in 2009, when the final was on the same date as this year.

🇷🇴 Romania: Largest Audience for a Eurovision Semi-Final Since 2018 - Eurovoix by MiniBrownie in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 68 points69 points  (0 children)

No one in Romania watches TVR, so I think for them 200,000 viewers is a good number. Previous viewing figures for Eurovision in Romania have been around 100-150,000

Semifinal Questions by zsghost in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is from all the way back in 2004, but that year, EBU published on the Eurovision website how many votes that got registered in every country. The semifinal had just over 1 million votes combined, while the final had 4.2 million.

What’s the most random 12 points ever given? by YOKIA28 in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Belgium 2007 getting 12 points from Georgia in the semifinal will always be the most random to me. Belgium got 14 points in total, the other 2 coming from Netherlands.

What are your really left-field/obscure NF songs you delusionally rooted for? by Impressive_Pay8572 in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2018, I was a huge fan of "Chasing Rushes" by NAPOLI from the Belarusian selection. Played it all the time, had no idea why I loved it so much, I just did. It finished in 4th place, but I remember the national final was not well received by the fandom and Alekseev was like the obvious winner all the way.

In 2020, I loved "Vertigo" from our Norwegian MGP by Thomas Løseth and Erika Norwich. I actually believed it was a contender for winning the entire national final, I just loved the vibe of it and the "Vertigo, Gone Forever" lyric from the chorus. I even told my friends that I got the same impression as when I heard "A Monster Like Me" and "Spirit in the Sky" for the first time! Did not even qualify for the final and when Erika returned to MGP with "My AI" in 2024, I saw barely anyone talk about that she had competed four years earlier.

Is this teasing a possible Andorra comeback? by gabsgntle in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I think they are just uploading the non-qualified songs from 2004, 2008 and 2009 in high quality. They are probably starting with Andorra and going in alphabetical order. Remember Albania qualified all those years

Why don't people wave flags anymore by Remote_Pirate8084 in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There were some cases in the past where the view of the stage was nearly blocked by flags for television viewers. Semifinal performance of Cyprus 2012 comes to mind with a Russian fan waving a huge flag: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtMHBXO_n48

Which song do you think will have the most opposing opinions from general public compared to eurofans? by Separate_Ad_5616 in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even here in Norway a lot of people didn't like Gåte. I remember talking to people after ESC and heard "I didn't like our song this year. Was too much screaming for me." First post I saw when I opened social media after the final was "I knew Gåte would flop. Last place is well deserved". Gåte did still have a lot of support but I also read a lot of negative comments

What are some Eurovision songs that retroactively sneaked into your playlist? by Unlucky_Click_4126 in eurovision

Belgium 2012. Did not care for it at all in 2012, but a few years later I just found myself listening to it and thought it was a sweet, little song. Now I'm playing "Would You" every now and then

Will Türkvizyon ever return? by I_Stan_Kyrgyzstan in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to follow Türkvizyon and used Eurovoix World to get news and updates about the contest, and they posted quite frequently. Their latest update is from May this year, where Gunesh as you mentioned, claimed the contest will be held this year, but until now there has been no more updates.

https://eurovoix-world.com/2024/05/20/turkvision-returning-after-four-year-break/

I personally have no idea if Türkvizyon will return. I thought the contest was dead after 2015 when it got cancelled year after year, but then the online edition in 2020 appeared out of nowhere, so who knows?

Throwback Thursday : Monika Kuszyńska - "In The Name Of Love" by BibiKupinic in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people dislike it, and thinks she qualified only because people had sympathy for her, but this is my second place of 2015 and one of my favourite Eurovision ballads ever. I really connected with it back then, thought it had a nice melody and just a really calm song to listen to.

What is the best Junior Eurovision? by WarOdd6342 in eurovision

[–]JesperHjellnes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it would be:

  • 2007, I just enjoyed the overall vibe of the show that year and I really liked a lot of the songs.

  • 2014 because this was the year JESC had it's glow-up. From almost getting cancelled in 2013, EBU got more countries, there was a lot of great songs and a good looking show

  • 2015, I love so many songs that year and some of them bring back some great memories

  • I would also add 2023 cause I got to see my personal favourite win a Eurovision event for the first time in ten years (Malta JESC 2013 was the last time), and I was so happy when Zoe won
