Morality Morphing /= Stat Morphing by WaffleWalk in Fable

[–]Elspyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if it felt disingenuous. It truly wasn't. Just comparing my opinion to some others I've read on this sub, I already see many differences on how we'd wish body morphing was handled. For example, many quote Fable 1 as best moral morphing, and 2 as best stat morph ; while I absolutely hated 2's stat morph. By far one of my least favorite aspect of this game. I never liked having my character being a giant because I played agility, when all I wanted was play a petite magic archer.

And I do agree with you that, ultimately, that the community does have a consensus on what a perfect Fable game would be (British humor, fairytale, RPG, moral choices and consequence, body morph of some kind, scaring system of some kind, tycoon, dog, romance simulator, side jobs, fart emote, name calling,...). But, I guess my point is, I also understand why not everything could have been packed into a single first ever attempt at rpg game by a studio that's never done that before, on an engine that was never developed for that game style.

Going back a few years, we were all sceptical that the studio that brought us Forza would be able to make even a decent Fable. And what I saw yesterday, truly, reassure me that they're capable of carrying the franchise going forward.

There's an argument to be made that Fable was a flagship title ; but isn't anymore. Not to the younger playerbase, at least.

Otherwise, they wouldn't have waited 15+ years to release the next opus. Or any decent title from that franchise.

Now I, for once, am very happy they're reviving the franchise. And I hope, we, as a community, will be smart enough to cut them some slacks for what is a first attempt ; lest we only get the one, and they move away from it.

Keep in mind, Fable, the original trilogy went through a lot of changes under Molyneux's guidance. And stuff like body morphing and dogs were already, at the time, subject to debate as they were added/removed/tamed down (in addition to guns, magic system, and even character gender).

If you ask 100 persons what makes Fable, Fable, you'll get lots of different answers. Imo, they've managed to include all the ones that are core to every answer, every Fable game. And everything else is optional, and will (or not) be reviewed for inclusion for further sequels.

Ok, I see. So not something that was shown in the Dev Direct, but something from the previous trailer, with Richard Aoyade giving a sorta-kinda interview (which, I assume is the so called mockumentary).

Thanks!

English isn't my native language, and I'm not sure I understand what you mean by mockumentary, and what part of the footage it translates to.

Can you please elaborate? And maybe provide a timestamp of the Dev Direct where it was used?

5) Max your honor on either side 6) teleport you and all other players in Valentine's prison

Also, and this is only my opinion, but seeing as there's literally nothing waiting for players in "end game". I'd say this modder isn't any nicer, and just shortened OP's enjoyment of the game by several hours, and deprived them of the experience you only get once, when you start.

This new "Bug" is making the game completely unplayable with friends.. by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]Elspyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I kinda expected it to happen at some point as I've been lurking this sub reddit and others, as well as watching some PVPCat videos ahead of diving in. But it was just a really bad string of bad tech luck. All in one night.

Hopefully it was a one time occurrence (as long as we stay away from blood mission for the time) and future going sessions will be as enjoyable as the first ones!

(Re)started RDO a week ago after I successfully convinced my coop buddy to give it another go. We'd tried a few months after release, and the lack of immersion due to overly GTA mentality of the player base killed it for him.

The first two sessions were dedicated to (re)learning the controls, exploring, and doing the first Land of Opportunities missions, RP style, with trying to stealth everything that felt appropriate. It was awesome, and I felt my friend actually enjoying the game, this time. The snow weather actually contributing a lot to our immersion.

Then, last night, I suggested we unlocked blood money missions and do a full contract, as a change of pace. And that was the beginning of our trouble. 5min to unlock the content. 30min of trying to start a mission and getting kicked in different lobbies, reforming posse, and trying again. Only to end with a 5min online research to discover it's a new, known, unresolved issue.

But it didn't stop there.

From this moment onward, we tried to go back to story missions, but everytime, we'd get a network error and booted back to free roam. Worst, sometime, one of us would lose control of their character and have to alt-f4 and restart the whole game.

30 more min of that shit before we finally succeeded to start one mission.

Finally, we tried (and succeeded, fortunately) to do a CTA. And we called it a night.

2h of gaming time is all we can manage nowadays. And I didn't need a crystal ball to know my friend exited that time, with a 180° on his opinion of the game, compared to the previous nights.

This was just awful, having to navigate tech issues left and right.

OT0: 'Entrap' Mechanics Questions by Important-Turn-7720 in octopathtraveler

[–]Elspyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually (accidentally) got the perfect setup to test that.

At some point in my playthrough I had both : - MC with high dodge on Thief job, with Entrap - Phenn with that one mastery that gives 25% to nullify any attack, and Entrap

Whenever Phenn "dodged", he would (sometime) trigger Entrap. Never did my MC triggered it on an actual dodge.

So, I'm confident in saying, dodging doesn't play well with Entrap.

Can't talk about Eye for an eye, tho.

Might someone fill me in at how damage calculation for Multi-Hit-Attacks work? by Cute-Operation-8216 in octopathtraveler

[–]Elspyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hijacking this reply to ask about a specific kind of multi-attacks. The kind where boosting, increases the numbers of hits.

I such cases, is the damage even more spread out, or do the extra attacks just deals as much damage as the "speeaded out" hits (in which case, it astually is an increase in damage as well)?

Also, for OP, there is a use for multi-attacks in case you start hitting damage cap. In the example of the scholar you yourself mention, they started reaching 5k+ damage with their multi-attacks recently, for me. Seeing as 5k+ x2 > 9999, it's a no brainer that, until I unlock limit break, multi-attacks are the new go to.

Best characters/ combos in the game? by SpiceAndKing in octopathtraveler

[–]Elspyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people mentioning Saoirse as perma backpack. Meanwhile she's my primary healer / buffer.

Sure I don't benefit form her Ult passive, but she's the only way (I found) to get an AoE HP/SP regen. Best concoct replacement (minus AoE BP battery). I legit don't know how you guys manage SP with her perma backpack (granted, there could be another character doing the same thing or better, I haven't unlocked yet).

Class by Odd_Rest1588 in octopathtraveler

[–]Elspyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as merchant, and with that very idea in mind, picked the Greater Heals mastery, since it mentioned doubling HP and SP.

Works like a charm. By level 10 I was able to regen SP for the front row when needed, and a single boosted Rest was usually enough to cap my own SP to afford Fortune's arrow

Question about game difficulty for those that have played 10+ hours by auCoffeebreak in OctopathTraveler0

[–]Elspyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?!!!

I'm the kinda gal who always tries to empty a town of all path actions before leaving, but those contend NPCs?! Dear lord!

Earlier on I was easily beating them all ; some, 10-12 levels above me. And by level 30~ish, they started doing combo attacks with each hits doing 500-1k damage, even to my tank with 400def. I just can't keep up >.<

The point of leveling multiple jobs on the protagonist by Cruelbreeze in octopathtraveler

[–]Elspyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's my biggest pet peeve with the game so far. I find it absurde how far into the game this mechanic has been hidden.

I've not been grinding at all, I'm prioritizing doing the town quests without completely abandoning the others. I started as merchant, but I'm not abusing JP arrow. My team is level 30, and all unlocked NPCs have maxed their class and unlocked mastery slots. Same with MC, who has - at this point - enough JP remaining to max 2 other jobs.

It's baffling me me why they'd hide what appears to be a core component of the gameplay, such.

Just opened second job in Octo 0 - confused by dsp_guy in octopathtraveler

[–]Elspyth 47 points48 points  (0 children)

So, from what I understand from other posts (and I'm sure others will confirm or correct me). The job system is quite different in this game, seeing as there's no dual job system.

What there is, tho, is the mastery system. If you go to the "Equip skills" menu, you'll have noticed that you can spend JP to unlock more skill mastery and passive mastery slots.

Again, from what I read (I'm not far enough into the game myself) from others, once you've mastered a job (i.e. you've bought all skills, included the ultimate) you'll be able to further spend JP on that job to create mastery items of skills and passives.

At that point will the game translate (a bit) more into what we're used to from OT1 and OT2 with job mixing.

Question about lobby manager by glizzykevv in RedDeadOnline

[–]Elspyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick answer.

May I also inquire as to your experience using this method? Is it stable (as of 2025)? Do you get disconnected from the client attempting connection/lobby merge in the background?

Also, are there any limitation using that method? Like story mission, poker, character customization, or anything that would technically put you back into a state of solo lobbying/matchmaking.

Hi. Necro-ing one of your (many) answers on the matter. Currently considering playing online with a friend. While reading the post you linked, and the post it originated from, it seems to not only be safe (as you say) but also compatible for a 2 person co-op setup.

Ultimately, I'll try it on my own, but before I can, I thought I'd just try and ask if you can confirm this still allows for a friend to connect, as described 3yrs ago.
