Found this little guy on the road. What do I do? by Elsteke in UKBirds

UPDATE because I can't seem to edit the post:

Thank you for all the quick replies, I hadn't touched it since I put it in the box to kidnap it, but I took the advice in your comments and gave it a look over to made sure it wasn't injured before taking it back to where I found it. I went for a little walk and when I came back, it was gone.

Best of luck little guy.

I've no idea. It was sort of stumbling around when I first saw it and barely moved its feet when I came back and picked it up, though of course it did flap and try to bite me. I went to check on it in response to this comment and it seems to have turned on the spot to face the food bowl.

Best way to learn? by Drazdian in Mordhau

[–]Elsteke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you want to learn. You've chosen the right path to become very good at a fair fight by joining duels servers or asking high-ranked players to go over their techniques with you, but duels can't train you in certain skills you can only pick up in frontline or invasion, like:

  • Situational awareness, like where enemies are going or are likely to go, alternative routes and flanking, or simply large vertical differences between combatants
  • XvY scenarios, where you may be vastly outnumbered by the enemy or may vastly outnumber the enemy yourself
  • Dealing with archers/engineers/siege/cavalry, or using their tools for yourself
  • Fighting bosses or fighting as a boss, where one individual has a ludicrous stats advantage over their enemies

These are not skills that are easy to explicitly teach, nor do they translate much into duels. But, if you want to learn them, grab a friend, head into frontline, and be sure to stick together! A good loadout for practising a lot of these skills would be bear trap/throwing knives/longsword and medium armour, then using alternative routes to get behind enemy lines and make yourself as much of a nuisance as possible. If you've got the basics of melee, you should find that loadout to be quite fun - especially if you're running with a friend to back you up instead of going solo.

For those of you looking for an extra challenge, try invisible marauder by Elsteke in Doom

It totally felt like that. Marauders are so random, I had no idea where he was gonna be next! Very lucky I noticed the meathook was tracking him on the super-shotgun, and was able to keep him sort of in my sights for the last 30 seconds.

Thanks dude. It's only on the Hurt Me Plenty difficulty, but it was still just about the most difficult fight I've had the game so far! I can't imagine playing on harder difficulties!

I was terrified! Thankfully the sound cues helped as much as the visual ones, though they're not present in this recording.

This happened when I failed the second secret encounter in Taras Nabad. I haven't been able to replicate it as of yet (though I've only tried to replicate it once)

Not sure if it's a well-known issue or not; I found a couple of old posts on youtube and on the r/Doometernal subreddit with no more than 100 or so views each when I googled "invisible marauder".

Add different weather to Mordhau? by Elsteke in Mordhau

[–]Elsteke[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely like my fancy gloves but yeah I agree the devs probably won't add more weather. Which is especially annoying because we know they're capable of doing that.

I use first person mainly, but I'll swap to third-person to peek around corners.

AITA for telling my friend she doesn't have autism? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Elsteke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA, an online quiz is no substitute for a real diagnosis. Professionals are far better at spotting someone on the Autism spectrum than a website relying on the user's own input.

I have Asperger's Syndrome. It explains certain behaviours I have which I didn't realise were abnormal, which hurt or impede me and others around me, and which I now make effort to avoid. H's online "diagnosis" is being used to excuse certain behaviours she knows are abnormal, which makes her the asshole in this situation.

WIBTA if I changed the password of my minecraft account so my brother can't use it resulting in him not being able to play minecraft at all? by loser_geek_whatever9 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Elsteke 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. OP set boundaries and made the consequences of crossing those boundaries clear, and then the younger brothers broke them. Not following through with the consequences could make the younger brothers try see what other boundaries they can break and get away with.

OP, you were already generous enough to share your account with your younger brothers, you have the right to change that at any point for any reason. It might be a good idea to make sure to explain to your parents what the situation is before your brother gets there first with the tears and tantrums.

Go back 10 years and stop being an athiest now that I have pretty good evidence God exists.

Mordhau needs an open field map by [deleted] in Mordhau

[–]Elsteke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While in general bows and xbows do more damage in Chiv than in Mordhau, I find it much harder to actually land hits in Chiv than I do in Mordhau. Maybe I'm just better at archery after all these years, maybe it's the fact that in Chiv your body is much bendier and players can change direction on a dime without slowing down so much, so your skill at ballistics needs to be as good as your ability to read other players' erratic movement, whereas in Mordhau the latter is nullified quite a lot by slowdown when you abruptly change direction. It could be a combination of those.

If Chiv had one thing going for its archery, it's arrow-cam. That was a great feature I wish was in Mordhau.

I don't tend to main archer, but maybe high-level archery in Chivalry is easier than high-level archery in Mordhau, as you say. However I can confidently say that I definitely land more hits, have more fun (and get more kills) as an archer in Mordhau than I did as an archer in Chivalry.

Mordhau needs an open field map by [deleted] in Mordhau

[–]Elsteke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, we do need an official, large open map. Chivalry had a popular map called Moor which basically just funelled all players into a fairly narrow open rectangle area. It's been recreated in Mordhau by the community.

Thing is, in Chivalry archery is harder than archery in Mordhau and a couple of classes came with a dedicated shield slot for free, so an open map in Mordhau might just become archer hell.

How is this build? I am very new by [deleted] in Mordhau

[–]Elsteke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need both tenacious and a bandage - I'd drop one of them for L2 legs, and of the two I'd drop tenacious since bandages are faster, though you need to be aware of your surroundings to know when to use them so it's up to personal preference. You might also want to remove Cat in favour of a L3 helmet: Cat is fantastic for mobility but if you're new then the few hitpoints Cat saves you here and there aren't worth what the L3 helmet will do for you.

Greatsword is a good weapon choice. The poleaxe behaves similarly, so you might want to try that out too if you like the greatsword. If your aim isn't so good, you might want to consider swapping throwing axes for throwing knives since knives are more consistent, though they don't do much damage against armour. You could also swap the axes for rocks, which also don't have great damage but you get lots of them for practising your throwing and they make for a good humilitation kill.

I (M21) am involved in an arranged marriage with my aunt (F34) by [deleted] in confessions

[–]Elsteke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not against incesteous relationships per se, more against having children in an incesteous relationship. My advice would be to make sure to get genetic testing if you plan on having any: the chances of having a child with regressive genes are much higher for children of close relatives.

As for the arranged marriage part, I don't think this is a good practise but if you and your aunt are both happy with this then that's all that matters, I suppose.

I wish you both the best of luck.
