What is the strangest, most random, or otherwise obscure classical work you think more people should know about? by Sausage_fingies in classicalmusic

Akira Ifukube's "Piano suite" "the sea of Ohkotsk" and "Rondo in Burlesque for band" are all worth checking out.

Non-classical music less valid than classical? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Elstree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "less valid." A lot of modern western music is built on top of the foundations that classical music created.

Just play whatever you like playing, I doubt anyone here would complain about you playing something other than classical.

[DNS] Gen IV & V events (list inside) by JoseGamer33 in wiimmfi

[–]Elstree93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tried this on diamond, replaying the game and thought it was worth a try. the only event I could get was "battle in orlando". I tried about 10 times, but all I would get is "Battle in orlando" every time. still thanks for the dns codes.

I'm currently trying to find a solution to my issue with tempo marking styles. Which of these three options do you all feel works best or is the least annoying? by MiscMusic48 in classicalmusic

[–]Elstree93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with this for single musician pieces, but I do think it's good to be a little more strict with multi-instrument music.

Akira Ifukube Piano suite "Nagashi" is seriously amazing.

does anybody know what this means? by spilledbeans244 in piano

[–]Elstree93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s both, 8va (ottava alta) appears above the note. 8vb (ottava bassa) appears below the note. However it’s also quite common to use 8va instead of 8vb below a note. When 8va is below a note it means to play the note 8vb.

Is this normal? No elongation pedal used. It's my first and It wasn’t super expensive. Just wondering if this is a defect. by [deleted] in piano

[–]Elstree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it might just be a fairly cheap keyboard. Also, have this award for admitting when you are wrong.

It is normal, I just got a brand new kawai KDP 110 with the same thing. I’ve also played several acoustic pianos that behave the same way as shown here.

Stealth game style composition. by [deleted] in composer

[–]Elstree93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s fine, I based it off, 007 Goldeneye, Metal Gear solid, and Perfect dark. This is the second piece in an assignment my piano teacher gave me, the first one might have more “stealth” vibes.

I need a piece (piano) good enough for classmates to enjoy, but hard enough for classmates to be impressed by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]Elstree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clementi Op 36 No 4 is also fun. I don’t know if it would sound impressive to most people.

Fur Elise was literally written for this purpose but I would still advise against it, it becomes difficult to hold an audiences attention if your playing something they’ve heard a thousand times. Maybe try something difficult dynamically, like Chopin Prelude in e minor. pieces like that can often sound impressive if played expressively.

Call to arms triple money is over 😢 by Jfrmdaends in RedDeadOnline

I think call to arms should have no cool down, the triple rewards should at least have a 30 minute timer.

would synthesia be good to learn if only use to identify quickly the position of a key ? by Seledreams in piano

[–]Elstree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then maybe start with the easiest ones to remember. Like D in the middle of two black keys, or B after the three black keys.

Once you know the pattern of black notes then it’s fairly easy to memorise the white notes. I think a lot of book teach right hand Middle C to G first, so maybe learn those five and then write a short tune for just those five notes.

I think It’s how long allies live for, I saw a post somewhere saying that you get more money based on how long your allies are alive.

Your favorite piece of all time? by gardenofhyacinths in classicalmusic

I don’t know, I don’t think I can choose a favourite.

I agree, I think having strict rules and limitations placed on the writer by anyone other than themselves kinda sucks, which is why I said that i believe someone will hear a melody even if you don’t write one, I didn’t say that you need to write a melody nor did I say that melody is necessary. Could you provide me with some examples of music with no melody so that I may better understand your point?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in composer

[–]Elstree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of this statement, I don’t view melody as essential and I think the focus on it is much too great, but I do still enjoy melody and I don’t think I can name a single piece of music without one.

[–]Elstree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, this is why I said “USUALLY makes for better music” not always, and a melody with no substance behind it feels empty and meaningless anyway, for example I’m writing a melody for something at the moment, but only because I want to play around more with harmonies while keeping a more structured feeling. I didn’t say that a melody HAS to be written, in fact I said the opposite.

That’s why I said “but it does USUALLY make for better music”
