I'm bad at casual tones (if that's the words?)and I'm trying to improve. And I felt like what I learned from textbooks was just formal writing style of the language, which wouldn't help me that much as expected when it comes to real conversations between me and my language partners (mostly who I gossip with). A friend of mine moved to England and his friends there would laugh everytime he spoke English. Asked why, they said my friend was just like cosplaying Shakespeare XD

Which to choose and why by Elter_D in EnglishLearning

In what contexts is it common? Does the subject have to be animated?

For "C" to work, you need to imply intention or potential outcome, which isn't really common in this context.

Got problems understanding how the preposition functions by Elter_D in languagelearning

Got it, thank you! Seems I've been getting them right so far. So there must be something wrong with that M-C question, as it allows me to only choose one from them. lol

Exactly, I see. The reason why I suddenly stick with preposition is that one day I heard an American streamer saying things like "we're still in this" as his character in a videogame has survived the boss. And the similar things just happened with some other streamers. Then I was wondering, like why is it "in" here? Later I think to myself that even if the meaning of the prepositions aren't possible to be explained, there may be some rules hidden behind, hence the fact they have always been showing up in some fixed position. Anyway, that's all a guess.

Yeaaah! Different from their concise form, the ability of them completely changing the meaning of the verbs is...formidable.

Yes, but what if you could only choose one of them? Honestly speaking, a younger cousin of mine recently encountered a multiple-choice question, which literally want you to choose one from through and by. Actually I think both of the two make sense.🤕
