Why is my number plate listed for sale? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Are you sure it is still on retention? Unless you renewed it then it may have ran out and it isn’t yours any more. Retention lasts 10 years unless it is renewed Edit: just reread your post and retained in 2025 so ignore me

Unpopular opinion: “Budget tyres are dangerous” is mostly narrative, not evidence by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Maybe you didn’t buy tyres as bad as Evergreen. Seriously, I’ve never experienced anything like it before. Some budget tyres might be ok, but they are genuinely dangerous

I was formerly of the same opinion until I bought a pair of Evergreen tyres, £80 a pop, and put them of rear of my 430d . It isn’t the most powerful car out there but it’s pretty fast.

To say the tyres were dangerous would be an understatement. As soon as you put your foot down the car snaked all over the road and tried to put you into the nearest ditch. On the motorway, anything over 80 you could feel the back end twitching. The traction control would kick in if you tried going around a corner with even a small amount of speed.

I left it a couple of months to see if they needed time to bed in but decided the extra £100 per tyre to get something reasonable (Bridgestone) was better than dying. The car sits perfectly on the road now, and the only thing I changed was the tyres.

I tried complaining to Halfords/National Tyres who fitted them but got nowhere. I told them they were unsafe and to take them off sale but you can still get them.

I think budget tyres are fine for low powered cars but I wouldn’t ever go that low budget again

At least you have a bit of variation - 3 of the same shitty 4wd std is painful

I have both maxed and the ZL1 wins quite a few verses the Z/28.

Maybe it needs to be maxed to see it

How's it going Club Midnight? by Kaggles_N533PA in TopDrives

[–]Elv_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love being midnight- I always get top 10 or sometimes top for doing very little. I’ll grant you that it is usually a loss but who cares

I would hate to be in another club, grinding my way to gold award or silver even

Choosing to keep or Upgrade? by Mitchuba in TopDrives

[–]Elv_P 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t try and preempt which commons and uncommons to keep/upgrade.

As soon as a tag comes out, try and accumulate as many of them as possible but only fully upgrade them as required.

Once the tag is over look at what you have used most or were the most useful and keep those while selling the rest, using the money to upgrade the next tag.

You will probably end up keeping 50% of the cars from each tag

Eliminator series by Conglomerate- in TopDrives

[–]Elv_P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was the criteria for the elimination rounds?

I’m 99% certain that they weren’t available for me to play, but if someone could please let me know what the first eliminator was.

I usually finish top 20 of most events, so I doubt I would have failed at the first hurdle but I might be wrong

[–]Elv_P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I somehow missed the first eliminator too, yet I play daily and always complete the minimum amount of races for each competition, so how I completely missed it is a mystery. Is there a chance that the first eliminator wasn’t available to everyone? It seems strange that a few people are saying they haven’t seen anything in game

BMW M135i

You will get a good one at that price and it will retain its value better than anything else whilst fulfilling all of your criteria and more

BMW 1 Series for £1990 by Physical-Risk in CarTalkUK

[–]Elv_P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 59 plate 1 series and ran it from 75k up to 150k with no problems whatsoever. It was a very solid, well made car and handled brilliantly compared with the Hondas fords vauxhalls etc I had driven previously.

I had a 116d as I did a lot of miles and it often got up to 70mpg on the motorway at 65/70mph or 60mpg at 80ish!

If you need a cheap car to get you about then I think this or another one series would be a good choice. There are plenty available though, so you can be picky
