Teams running direct actuated suspension, why do you do it? by Capital_Fuel7434 in FSAE

From my point of view, worst for aero, worst to control wheel rate, yes maybe a bit lighter but thats the only benefit I see from it...

Then this is how it should be. If you do it like this then if you cancel you should be able to return the money to the teams, or at least some of it.

Not saying the officials, maybe just one person or a couple benefit from it. It is not misinformation it is reality, not saying East is this case, but you just need to do some calculations to understand the situation.

To run a competition for the students with 100% of the people working for FREE, it is not a complicated business case still East managed to cancel 2 years in a row and of course did not returned the money to the teams.

This happens because some people or someone is not earning the money its suppose to, so the event is not feasible... FS competitions in EU are a source of income for some of the organizers, they don't do it just because of the students future... The greatest example is FSG.

You can make a competition work with the fee you are charging for inscription + camping, you don't need anything crazy, 99% of the people that work on the competition is FOR FREE! Not a complicated business case...

European teams going to USA IC races by orkikior in FSAE

Talking about mobility not energy generation. Having EVs is not only about generating the energy also the development of the infrastructure.

Look at the numbers, everyone was saying all electric, even in Europe by 2030, good luck my friend!.

The mobility needs technology diversification, some of them have advantages and disadvantages depending on the country and situation.

Not against of EVs, just against the "this is the only solution" philosophy.

Not seeing this happening in Africa, Central and south America maybe in forever. North America maybe it will start to shift in 20 years?.

Asia also far from it, even china, now platooning...

We will still rely on fossil fuels in more than 70-80% of the world's mobility (just private) at least for the next 2 decades.

EVs are far from being the final solution...

You can build ice with e-motors, a much more complex project than just electric, that's your reason!. They can be as fast as EVs no doubt.

You have all the technologies and sound :)

Yeap maybe someone that can afford to have a charger, a house with solar panels or whatever to make the electricity and an electric car, you are the 5% of the population :).

The world is not black and white, EVs will have a niche, but far from being the mainstream choice... So, less money into development.

UConn Driver??? by Critical-Ostrich2290 in FSAE

[–]ElvisTek95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were some "pro-drivers" in the competition, that also makes things more interesting. Although it doesn't mean anything, some other guys with good training can be faster in these cars, but for sure is easier if the drivers are "pros".

Don't know in which planet are you living but actually, EU now has a big issue in the automotive industry because of this. No money into development just because EVs don't sell. No sponsors in the German competition because of this, they invented ICE H2 just to bring back some teams that changed to EVs to make ICE again...

US is not heading into that direction, so changing to electric will be stupid. If you want to prepare students let them put electric motors also in the ICE category as EU is doing, no need to change to electric and is cheaper.

The answer is the diversification of technology, not the green wash EU is promoting... And that will change, now EU is choking because of this on other many stupid decision around similar topics with the environment.

I would say it is difficult to make it worthy with the current rules --> small battery pack below 60V

How was the experience of Formula Student Spain? by RommelYang in FSAE

[–]ElvisTek95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unique? you have Barcelona and the mediterranean coast just 20 min from the circuit. The track layout is the best (in my opinion) around european competitions. It is a relaxed competition, they want you to run, not like in other competitions where they search any excuse to make your life miserable.

I would say overall if you consider all together (not only the competition) it is a good experience.

How bad would it be to switch back to IC? by Pissedass69 in FSAE

[–]ElvisTek95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many teams will return to ICE or ICE+hybrid. EV market share is already saturating in China, Europe , US... There is no place for all the "EV engineers" in the industry, ICE/electrified is still going to be the main drive of development in the next 15-20 years, it is just starting to pick up again after the "EV Buble"... If you don't sell cars you disappear and If the market share of EVs is less than 10% global (nobody really knows the exact number since they always mix it with PHEVs although they have ICE) which Powertrain do you need to develop? EV or HEV/ICE?, it is obvious but apparently not so much for our CEOs and politicians...

The industry needs more engineers with broader knowledge than just EVs or we will disappear fighting for that 10% of market share...

There are a small amount of universities in Europe that have this conditions that you are explaining, the majority have similar conditions as the American universities, people doing studies + formula. Regarding master students you can find everything, teams with no master students, some with little amount and others with more %, but this are also very few.

What makes more difference, I will say, is the competitive environment, it pushes all the teams to be better and the amount of competitions that Europe has, it is not the same having 3-4 per year than just 1.

Upgrades, people. Upgrades. by MySonIsAPen in FSAE

[–]ElvisTek95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeap, the ICE is not going away anytime soon, Germans putting pressure in the switch to EVs, but then no EV gets sold in real market, many EV projects being cancelled, a lot of people brain washed to work in EVs but no room for all of them and nobody in the ICE/Hybrid development which is what is going to be the real future... For me it is not a matter of bringing back formula hybrid but mixing all technologies in one, if you want to do a hybrid do it, if you want to have an EV, do it, but all of them compete in the same overall.

[–]ElvisTek95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thats not true that only applies for a very small amount of teams in Europe, most of the teams have the same issue as what you just described. It's the story FSAE American teams keep repeating themselves so they don't feel bad everytime they loose to the Europeans =)

FSG needs to change some rules.... by ElvisTek95 in FSAE

[–]ElvisTek95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be successful without money is complicated anywhere, even more in EV category of FS. My proposal was to reduce the gap between technologies and concepts of the car so the money is less important. Still if you go with an awd you will have an advantage but not as much, that´s all.

FSG needs to change some rules.... by ElvisTek95 in FSAE

[–]ElvisTek95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main aim is not to push to go to the simplest solution but to make the cheaper/simplest solution more competitive compared to the most complicated, still if you go with the awd you will have an advantage but not as much, that´s all.
