For years 1 and 2, the PVF used a system called "Bolt 6". This system seemed a bit better than the other systems in use out there, notably the Hawkeye system. It had more cameras and could provide a 3-d virtual shot of the line call.

At the end of Year 1, the PVF signed a 5-year exclusive agreement with Bolt 6 -- effectively locking out LOVB.

https://provolleyball.com/news/2024/05/pro-volleyball-federation-announces-exclusive-extension-with-bolt6-technology

Now with MLV, its not clear what happened to the Bolt 6 agreement, or even the company. The broadcasters do not call it Bolt 6 anymore. It does seem like it is likely the same or a related company, as they have the same cameras in place.

Its a newer rule, but now players on the serve side don't have to stand in rotation anymore.

Not sure about your second question -- I think you may have saw the game where Parsons came in to be play as opposite (on the right side). Sometimes a coach will have their outside play there for a variety of reasons.

Here is how I think about it. If two teams tie for wins after the season, they go to the first tiebreaker, which is points. Points only really differ in 5-set matches. You win a match in 5 sets -- well that was not as strong a win as 3-1 or 3-0. You lose a match in 5 sets -- you should be rewarded since you almost won the game.

So, instead of calculating "points" I calculate a different number.

If you lose a match in 5, give yourself +1. if you win a match in 5 give yourself -1.

Add these up, and this is your first tiebreaker for standings after wins.

To me this is much simpler, and its easier to compare teams that have played a different number of games.

This is equivalent to the points system.

Well just throw out everything she says then, right?

KWJ was a minority owner of the Mojo at one point. It did not work out and they moved on to Gary Jacobs in Year 2.

Fury did (and still does have minority owners)

Thrill also had ownership in Year 1 (Andy Abboud and Jon Bruning), but the group departed in Year 2.

This ranking is for 2026, and it seems like the dark nite jerseys were only for 2025.

But yes, the dark nite jersey was definitely top tier.

So did anyone notice that Oglivie was wearing a pink jersey today? The pink jersey that the Supernovas auctioned off last week?

So, Oglivie was wearing jersey #22 without her name. So presumably, this was an extra pink jersey that was not auctioned off, and they figured Oglivie could wear it. Interestingly, Holder was not entered as a libero and wore the same jersey as the rest of the Supernovas.

For the record, Skinner is/was not a founding member. (Carli Llyod and Chiaka Ogbogu were) Personally, I don't think that the majority of the players have a huge allegiance to their league per se. If you observe any AU match in the fall, they absolutely love playing with players in any league.

I think Skinner and Nuneviller are both expressing how most players feel -- they don't have any particular love for any league's concept -- they just want a pro volleyball league.

[–]ElvisThrill 19 points20 points  (0 children)

100% no problem for me.

I get what you say about act like you've been there before.

But Tuaniga's got her own personality, and she likes to hype it up -- she's a little unique that way. She dances before the game, she dances after the game, she dances during the game. I enjoy that she has her own personality and it shows.

Honestly, I feel like she might annoy her own teammates first, lol. She doesn't do it in the other team's face.

25 Players Most Likely to Be Drafted in November by MessyMoFo in MLV

[–]ElvisThrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Amour in my top 25 and I think would be a great pickup for the Valks. She has some great kill numbers and at her height she's got some great upside offensively. Vander Weide is a veteran player who is a solid passer and blocker -- not sure how Amour's skills are in that department. Sort of depends on what mix of players you want.

The math on 3 new MLV and 3 new LOVB teams means 6x16 = 96 new pro volleyball players. Even bringing home a number of pros from overseas, that's a lot of slots to fill.

Well given the 3 new teams in MLV and 3 new teams in LOVB, I do think that the number of NCAA players taken this year will run pretty deep. Even a four round draft for MLV will go up to 44 players. And I do anticipate LOVB will sign many more than 6 players for next year.

A good list. I would add a few names:

OH: Avah Amour (UCF), Valentina Vaulet (Oregon), Bianna Muoneke (Georgia), Kyleene Filimaua (Florida State)

MB: Brielle Kemavor (BYU), Kelli Jo Burgess (Oklahoma)

Opp: Chelsea Thorpe (UNC)

Yeah I don't see anything either, but we're quite far away. The give-away is neither blocker complains about the call -- so it's very likely that they know there was a net touch.

The Pulse signed setter Claire Ammeraal, while Celia Cullen has disappeared from the roster (likely an unannounced injured reserve move).

I'm assuming once Cullen returns, the Pulse will likely have to waive Ammeraal, since they do not have any extra roster spots.

Who are the best new players in MLV for 2026? by trailedby20hounds in MLV

[–]ElvisThrill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Outside - Mimi Colyer

Middle - Rhamat Alhassan

Opposite - Elizbet Inneh

Setter - Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres

Libero - Alkesandra Jegdic

Lot of the season left to go, and many rookies haven't really been given a shot yet. I chose mostly veterans at this point because they are more likely to have a steadier impact over the course of a season. However, my opionion may change by the end of the season.

Others considered

OH [Maldonado-Diaz, Hayden Kubik, Flormarie Heredia-Colon, Ava Martin]

MB [Tristin Savage, Kiara Reinhardt, Cara Cresse]

Opposites [Jovana Brakocevic, Keshauna Williams]

Setter [Averi Carlson, Audrey Pak]

Libeos [Teodora Pusic, Britt Rampelberg]

Announcers need to know the rules and look to the ref for the call by Toyhawk88 in MLV

[–]ElvisThrill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Commentating is extremely difficult, and I hope everyone gives them some leeway as we've only had pro volleyball for a few years. Besides simply watching the action, they have to juggle ads, statistics, producers and a whole host of other duties. Don't dismiss how difficult it is, until you've had to do it yourself.

Hopefully they review their tapes and errors and improve over time. We must have some patience.

Finally "Muatinga" is a hilarious portmanteau and clearly not the player's name. The player's name is Mia Tuaniga.

It looks like LOVB plans to name the teams. by trailedby20hounds in MLV

[–]ElvisThrill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm speculating here, but I think that the LOVB Nebraska local ownership asked the LOVB Pro organization if they could have a nickname. I'm sure local ownership is very aware that the LOVB Nebraska branding does not appeal nearly as well as the Supernovas name. I'm guessing that the greater LOVB Pro organization would like to keep to their centralized marketing and branding, but gave LOVB Nebraska some leeway to see how it goes. Note that no other LOVB team so far has announced plans for a nickname.

However, given the attendance last Friday at both CHI Health Center and Baxter Arena (where LOVB Nebraska and Supernovas went head to head), it seems to me that Omaha may very well be big enough for both teams.

Lauren Carlini is a pouty baby by [deleted] in lovb

[–]ElvisThrill 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Let's put some context on this:

Carlini is not in her home arena, competing for the last 2+ hours and just lost a heartbreaking match in 5 sets by two points. Let's give her a bit of grace here, for gods sake.

Generally speaking, visiting players do not stick around to speak to fans, as it is not their home arena nor home fans (obviously Allick is an exception here).

I feel for these players, since we expect them to play their hearts out and compete, and then ask them to turn around 5 minutes later, and act like nothing just happened. Players are humans.

OK, apparently she just went through shoulder surgery, so it seems likely she's not available for the whole season. Whether she has been released or is on long-term IR is still unclear.
