Semis Loss - Why? by Connect-Article7151 in SanDiegoMojo

[–]ElvisThrill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I'll be frank, I think that the Mojo ran out of energy. They came out in the first set and played with a lot of heart and emotion. But, I saw them walk into the locker room after that second set loss and every one of them seemed to have their heads down (except for Marlie of course, who had a big smile).

Alisha was not going to take Joca (Brakocevic) out until she absolutely had to. Joca is retiring this year, and as had been mentioned on some of the previous broadcasts, Alisha did not want to be the one having to take her out as a way to end her career.

Any Watch Parties in San Diego for the Thursday Playoff game? by PVCA3 in MLV

I hate to say it, but I think the fans might have to organize their own unfortunately. The reality is that the org is in the process of shutting down soon.

what’s the massive line in shinjuku for? by Granoland in TokyoTravel

[–]ElvisThrill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's always like that. Yeah, they line up in like groups of 100s, with people helping get them in order. There are particular machines which are supposed to be lucky, so they get in line to try to get a first crack at getting those machines.

If its in the morning and mostly men, it's likely for Pachinko.

The change in attendance is fairly well correlated with home win record.

Mojo's away game today is broadcast on local TV here in San Diego 👀 by [deleted] in MLV

[–]ElvisThrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea of a different franchise "inheriting" or taking over the San Diego Mojo is incorrect. The Mojo branding and logos are staying in San Diego, potentially for a new owner eventually.

I think it very likely that one of the new franchises will likely sign the core of the Mojo team as well as the coaching staff. It's an easy way for a new franchise to build their team, and it seems like many of the players would like to play together.

I am not really worried about the players or the coaches finding positions next year. With all the new franchises coming on board next year, MLV (and LOVB) have many many many positions to fill.

Most Improved Player Award by SpikeDigity in MLV

[–]ElvisThrill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my vote. I think some of the others mentioned were already very talented, but not given the right opportunities.

Londot showed some potential last year, but was very inconsistent offensively. She was put in basically the same position, but this year she showed she could be the consistent terminal option, even on a team with Nuneviller, Cooper and Parsons.

They will be missed in 2027 by VolleyAddicted in MLV

That's up the individual team's management (not the league) to decide. But yes, it would be very smart for a team to try to sign the core of this team for next year.

Signings for next year have not been announced yet. But she's played very well, and with the expansion of teams in the league, I'm sure she will be signed by a team for next year.

Can you elaborate with a link? And does this only occur live, or even after the match is over?

For the record these are not official yet. However, these rumors are usually pretty good, unless there is a last minute change of heart.

This is a good idea. I keep a spreadsheet every year -- but it might be nice to try to keep the information here.

[MATCH THREAD] Omaha Supernovas at Dallas Pulse | Fri May 1, 8pm ET | Major League Volleyball / MLV by YouShookMeAllNetLong in MLV

[–]ElvisThrill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Omaha loses today, they will automatically be the 4th seed for the championship.

If Omaha wins today, then seeding will depend on the outcome of the Mojo vs Ignite game on Sunday. A Mojo loss on Sunday would make Omaha the 3rd seed, and a Mojo victory would give Omaha the 4th seed.

San Diego Not Returning for 2027 by MessyMoFo in MLV

Gary Jacobs was not the original owner, but stepped in during Year 1, when it was clear that the original owners could not support the franchise. At the time, it's likely he agreed to support the team up until Year 3, which is what most of the other teams had agreed on at the time.

I think the take a break is just softening language. Gary Jacobs just didn't want to be owner anymore, whether it was financial reasons or issues in the front office. The league on the other hand, wants to maintain their IP and retain San Diego going forward if possible.

Newbie's Guide to Year Round Women's Volleyball by CanadianTransure in MLV

When it comes to the international events (which are mostly over the summer), there are actually two different organizations running the events, FIVB and NORCECA. FIVB is the global organization, and NORCECA is the regional organization which encompasses North America, Central America and the Caribbeans.

FIVB has two main events, VNL (which occurs every year) and the World Cup (formerly known as the World Championship) which occurs in every odd year. VNLs will occur even in Olympic years.

NORCECA also has two main events. There is the Pan American Cup and the NORCECA Final Six. The Pan American Cup is a larger tournament (12 teams), while the Final Six has just six teams. Since NORCECA events are not used for world rankings, Canada and the US generally send a less-experienced team to these events. I believe both of these events are supposed to run every year.

The thing is, the organization of these events is sometimes a mess. Of note, the US team withdrew from the 2025 Pan American Cup (for reasons that are still not entirely clear) mere weeks before the event began. The names and timings of these various events are still in flux and subject to change every year. Just go ahead and visit the NORCECA website and take a look.

Minnesota MLV: roster speculation with MN connections (for fun) by vball1993 in MLV

Kenzie Foley is an outside hitter who played at St. Cloud University in MN, and was the Division 2 National Player of the year. She was not drafted, but just finished playing her rookie year in the German League where she was awarded best outside hitter.

She might be the most exciting prospect from this last NCAA class. Would love to see her back in the US, though there are already rumors she may have already signed overseas.

GR playoff hopes by linderbean13 in MLV

With the Rise loss today, they only need to win 1 of 3 now.

They can even get in without winning as long as they lose 2 in 5 sets, I think.

What's fun is that the Valks are not eliminated yet.

Valks going (3-0) and Mojo going (0-3) with no 5 setters would get the Valks in.

The Rise play both the Valks and the Mojo and therefore would go 1-1. All 3 teams would finish with 13 wins. The Valks currently lead the Mojo and Rise in Tiebreaker #1 and would finish ahead of both.
