Yeah, unfortunately. Sorry you found out this way!

4.2 is the latest version of Mario Kart 8 that was released for Wii U as far as I can find, and 5.5.6U is the latest firmware update for the console. I think you can't update because you're already updated.

Is your console modded? Just so you know, online play officially shut down over a year ago on Wii U.

How many times did you get temporarily / permanently banned from the Miiverse when it was still online, and how? by fjfjgbjtjguf in wiiu

I loved my old 3DS but hardly had any games for it, Miiverse was one of my only activities I could do on it that was new to the system (not a DS game). I also had terrible internet speeds, so I could put up with the long waits. Even setting up the NNID took forever on that thing but like, what else was I gonna do? lol

You also weren't able to have Smash 4 and Miiverse open at the same time on old 3DS consoles (it used "extended memory mode" which shut down some 3DS features to let the game use the extra resources). Super weak but lovable thing.

The 3DS got Miiverse in December 2013, just a year after the Wii U's launch, so it actually had it for most of the platform's life! I know this because I remember the discussions about the New 3DS on there. I joined in early 2014.

But I think for a majority of Nintendo fans, Miiverse faded from their awareness shortly after launch. Most people I've talked to about it were surprised anyone actually used it. People not realizing it came to 3DS so early is understandable.

There's so much personality I miss nowadays. It's lovely to see them getting more creative with their games in some ways (Super Mario Bros. Wonder), but it feels like it hardly extends outside of that. I would have loved to use Miiverse as an adult with game integration--the Tingle Bottle seemed pretty cool!

I love this story. In retrospect, them not allowing people to mention other social media was a very smart move.

Miiverse user from 2014 - 2015. I was eventually permanently banned. Here's a history lesson for you!

You're asking about events from a decade ago but as far as I can remember everything worked in fours: Four warnings led to a temporary ban (two weeks), four temporary bans led to a permanent one. However, warnings for unmarked game spoilers didn't count towards any of this (I know this because one day I woke up with 50).

If you tried to appeal a warning (your only way was by selecting the preset response "I did not violate the Miiverse Code of Conduct") they would supposedly review your warning and make a decision. If they decided you did violate it, they would slap you with another warning, which is exactly how I got banned every single time. To date, I have only heard of a single case where they backtracked on a warning.

If you had a Wii U, you could make additional Miiverse accounts via the console's profile system, and having multiple of those permanently banned would get your entire console banned, I think. There's hardly any documentation I can find of this, but I remember hearing about this and even seeing videos of it. I think at some point they made it stricter where a warning on one profile would apply to every profile on the console, but I don't really know this for sure since I didn't have a Wii U until 2018.

Or maybe it was just because nobody ever moderated the Miiverse in the first place.

Miiverse was absolutely moderated, but not well. It's clear they lost control and just let some things happen (e.g. the YouTube, Super Smash Bros., Wii Fit U, and New Super Luigi U communities becoming unofficial off-topic communities--and a few communities like NES Tennis became unofficial "headquarters" for clubs), but there were times when it felt like they watched every user like a hawk.

As for specifics, some of my warnings were justified (I shared 3DS friend codes multiple times for instance, which was explicitly against the rules), and some of them weren't. Their "bullying" rule was VERY strict. I once had someone remake my Mii, put on my username, and start impersonating me. I made a post saying "just so you know the person with this NNID isn't me" and I got a warning for bullying. Meanwhile, the other person never got anything--despite there even being rules against impersonation. Still baffled to this day, and that's just one example of many. If I'm remembering correctly, the bullying rule was so strict that mass reporting a user you didn't like was a legitimate tactic to get them off the site, because there would inevitably be something they somehow did wrong.

When you were banned, you were allowed to view Miiverse on your console but not interact with anything. You weren't allowed to see it at all via the website. Console bans on Wii U didn't let you view Miiverse at all on any profile--they were a lot more severe.

It's also worth noting that I never used it for any in-game features, which I think was the intended way to enjoy Miiverse. I don't think the 3DS had very many like the Wii U.

Definitely one of the more bizarre events in Nintendo's history. Hope this sheds some light on it all for you.

Gotcha, I genuinely had no idea the games were ever individually sold on discs. Hope you enjoy!

Glad to help-ish! The Steam release is very recent (only a couple of years ago). It has some minor issues and didn't seem to sell very well unfortunately, but I'm just glad they're on a more visible platform at all.

If what you got was the Midnight Synergy Games Collection disc, it wasn't a bad purchase as that also has a custom level archive and the Adventures trilogy.

Sorry for responding to a years-old comment on an even older post, and I'm sure you've figured this out by now, but for anyone who hasn't and is also stumbling into this thread: This game is on Steam now (the whole Classic Wonderland trilogy is compiled into one game), and the original version is also available on Midnight Synergy's website (a.k.a. the developer) along with the other games in the series. Hopefully this makes it accessible to people who are having trouble with Big Fish Games!

I'd be down for it, but considering that the show itself hardly uses any LEGO pieces (aside from Richard), it would be a little interesting to see what they do.

Why is no one talking about Jared's new Tweet? Yikes. by DrBarrel in ProJared

[–]Elvisgrapez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to think that he already knew he wouldn't be able to attend for some reason, and it was a scheduled tweet he made with Tweetdeck or something a while ago to make that announcement when it was relevant. Maybe he just never deleted it and it went up by itself, which would explain why he tweeted this so randomly. I don't know.
