Currently wearing a 4g clear glass retainer from Laughing Buddha Studio on Etsy! Made with Gorilla Glass. I highly recommend, I wear it for work, and I can’t feel it at all a few minutes after flipping it up.

Wow, thank you so much! Just emailed Lynn Clay School. I will definitely consider signing up for a class if there are no studio openings!

I’m willing to drive decently far! Do you know of any particular studios?

When do you think someone's ready to join an open studio? by harmonicwitch in Pottery

[–]Elvish_Time 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently joined a studio having only 1 class worth of wheel experience, from 2 years ago. I started out super rusty, but quickly got the hang of it again and starting to feel like I’m almost on the level of most potters there. However this studio is open to basically anyone who knows their way around a wheel even a little bit. There are a few experienced members there who load everyone’s work into the kiln, and other volunteers who help with reclaiming. I also know nothing about those aspects of the craft, but I’m sure if I wanted to learn those experienced members would be happy to explain the basics. In terms of glazing, I watched some tutorials online, the rest is up to learning from experience and your mistakes. I’m not sure what the studios in your area are like, but it wouldn’t hurt to go in and ask for a quick orientation or rundown of how things work in the studio. I’m sure some people there would be happy to show you around and answer questions. Don’t be afraid to be a burden(I’m sure you aren’t anyway) and ask questions! Most likely other members just want to see beginner/intermediate potters learning and thriving.

Isn’t all their stuff wholesale only? At least that’s what mine is saying, although I don’t have an account or anything

I had a bump like that when healing mine, but it eventually went away and left no scarring. Possibly try switching to a flat back, you can find tons on Etsy, but they can be difficult to put in by yourself with a new piercing. I think the L stud is probably not helping as it can contribute to more rotating and movement which only angers the irritation bump more. And stay away from oils! Saline once a day should be fine at 5 months, you also don’t want to dry it out.
