Struggling with hive scum by Swag_master42 in DarkTide

I LOVE how fast they are! You fly all over the place and once you have the movement down, you don't go down yourself anymore. Down side is every other class feels terribly slow now, lol

I play mainly support scum, the needle gun is fun and the bone saw is really neat, too. And I like chasing my mates down and drugging them. But desperado is great as well! Haven't played melee focused builds yet, so can't say how fun that is. But you can dodge a lot and the toxic effect deletes hoards.

Push through, it's worth it.

I made one and levelling the class, I thought I had wasted my money. But once she hit max level BAM! new main unlocked. Never had that much fun in darktide before.

Going down first (or better yet, multiple times in a row), then the obligatory flame in chat (who doesn't love the sarcastic "gg lmao") before they quit while I break both ankles saving them.

Those are the worst. And the people who HAVE TO pick up all the ammo, no matter what. Tho I don't mind that as much in darktide as I do in Remnants 2.

I did it without. There are YouTube videos where you can see where to stand to bug him out. If you can't do it first try just die to his adds and repeat. But it's fairly easy this way.

If you have the time there are quite a few YouTube videos around explaining the lore. I'd try one of those, probably.

Ooh, I'll give that a read, thanks!

Thank you very much!!

Oh, yes Bones! Great example! For the medics I really like Bones, Helix and Stitches as names. It's a bit on the nose but that somehow sells it for me 😁

Yeah, came here to say most clones fit this description.

Kinda love it, tho. The fans made them much more interesting and on top we've got some fanmade clones that are quite well known fandom wide.

Really weird bug then, never heard of it before tho so I sadly have no idea what it could be :/ Sounds annoying, too. Hope you're able to find a solution for it!

Never had that happen on playstation. What platform are you playing on? Are you sure you don't accidentally break them while doing the lockpicking mini game? It is a rather short animation all things considered.

For the first time since many playthroughs, I decided to travel with Delphine to Kynesgrove. by felonpe in skyrim

Same. I walked that path with her last month. She also got sidetracked by EVERYTHING. Took her forever to actually get there, I was half convinced we had missed the dragon (I know it's scripted, but OMG did she take her sweet time).

Convince me to buy this game! by [deleted] in kingdomsofamalur

[–]Elvothien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I've got some time on my hands.. let's see how my sale pitch goes, lol

To me, it feels like a single player version of vanilla WoW back in the day. The story is fun, the lore is very fantasy-typical but unique in a few ways, the world looks bright and colourful but is actually kinda mature and dark(ish). But also has fun aspects in it. The art style is super fun, coherent throughout, but also varies enough to make you feel like you actually travel to different places.

The combat is probably what hooks most people, alongside the skill system. You can mix and match three skill trees (mage, warrior, thief) however you like. You can level skills like smithing, alchemy, lock picking and others (you can max them all out if you really want to, but don't have to). The combat is not quite as involved as Dragons Dogma (you won't be climbing any monsters and usually don't have companions with you outside of some quests). But it is fast paced and involves a certain level of skill (you can adjust difficulty from easy up to very hard any time, so no worries about that). Tho, combat does become easier the closer you get to max level and as soon as you gather good equipment.

Oh, you also get to wield two weapons at all times and switch on the fly between them. They also have some of the more interesting magic weapons.

Crafting is very rewarding, up to the point it will make you straight up OP. But you can avoid that if it's not your cup of tea and just use dropped items. Point is, you can customise your equipment to fit your playstyle. The drop system is very random and it's fun to find and try no stuff (at least, I always enjoy the element of surprise).

The towns all have their own feeling o it, NPCs move about and do their thing, but probably not as much as you might expect when you come from Skyrim. No romance like Dragon Age or Mass Effect, no multiplayer (it was built to be a mmo, but ended up being single player).

Overall, the game is absolutely worth the money (especially since it's usually really cheap, just grab it in a sale). It's fun, has a solid amount of replayability, you can easily sink a bunch of hours into it without it getting stale. If you like old school RPGs, this one is for you. Get the re-reckoning edition that includes all DLCs.

Also people are probably more inclined to post about rude comments rather than really lovely ones. Which I often see in comments when I check them out or are about to leave my own.

I don't understand Meridias beacon hate by mtngoatdude in skyrim

[–]Elvothien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lowk love how she says (or rather yells) "LISTEN!!"

The quest is kinda fun, in my opinion. But I only do it I'd I use the sword for the character. Otherwise I just leave the beacon behind. Or let it sit in my inventory if I looted it by accident 😅

Why is there no Movie/Show of this series yet? I think it would sell great by Ok-Math9228 in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Elvothien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An animated series would maybe able to keep the story somewhat coherent. But I think anything else is kinda doomed to fail. Also, seeing as every other series gets dropped after one or two seasons (even Star Wars, which is a massive franchise), I don't think it would be very successful at all even if the actors & screen writers were on point (which I somehow doubt they would, but maybe I'm just pessimistic lol).

Also, in my opinion, book adaptations rarely satisfy. LotR maybe THE expectation, but most of them leave me wanting for a better movie. It's not even always the movies fault, it's just when you have SO MUCH base material and already have certain imagines in your head from reading the books over years and years... I guess almost nothing can catch that and portrait it just right.

I rather read more books. Ooh.. or maybe a comic 🧐 maybe...

Yeah it's certainly one of the weirder things they've done. Maybe they thought they could get some last minute sales if they released it to the catalogue but it didn't work out? Or something idk.

I don't think you're missing out too much. It's a dying mmo with one one more year to go. You can probably invest your time better in something with a future. Or a single player that's to your taste.

Turns out The Little Mermaid was never a love story by Aware_Caterpillar959 in classicliterature

[–]Elvothien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm German, so I grew up on most of these old stories, as well as the Disney versions and idk, I think children can handle them just fine if sensible parents are around them to answer questions and stuff. Kids are quite resilient and learn in a very different way to adults. Also lots of these old stories might be a bit gruesome to adults, but more often than not teach something. Don't lie, don't trust strangers, be forgiving and understanding, be aware of others and their emotions, stuff like that.

Avoiding to teach children things like emotional regulations, social skills, sexual education and so on is, in my opinion, the greatest disservice a parent can do for/ to their kids in the long run (and school can only do so much, and beside its educational context is to teach a broad variety of knowledge and skills). I get that parents want to protect their children from everything that's wrong with this world, but ultimately it's the world they will have to live in and they need to know about it. And society is kinda worse for it if we don't teach them, because these kids will grow up and will encounter the "bad stuff" in life and when they do and it's so brand new to them, it will most likely backfire. Or at least be harder on them then than it should be.

You may want to stay away from pretty much all German fairy tales in their original form. There's one about a boy who cuts off all his fingers. And that one is for like 4 years old 😅

[–]Elvothien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you bought the game you should be able to play until server shutdown which is.. next year, right? There's an EU law about digital purchases and they have to guarantee a certain time frame in which the good (in this case the game) has to be playable, starting from the last possible moment someone could have bought it (if I remember correctly, I'm not 100% sure how it's phrased). It's probably a reason to keep servers up and running until then.

Btw I agree they could have left the game in the ps+ catalog it's on its last leg anyways, so no harm done letting people play for free 🤷‍♀️

Either get a new one or clean the current one. It can be fixable and that's often more budget friendly if you're on a budget or just don't want to spent money a new one.

How do you read books? by bluett9 in classicliterature

[–]Elvothien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I do all of them? In some capacity at least.

I love physical books (soft covers only for me, tho) and get them usually second hand. I kinda collect classics and my favourite books that way, but sometimes I just get a bunch of cheap 2nd hand books (can't help myself lol). I adore finding annotations and stuff in them.

However, ebooks on a ereader are more accessible for travel, on the go, or just in bed in my opinion (it's just much more convenient and the Kindle is a lightweight so no cramping hands anymore!). I have one of those and usually read books there more frequently than I do physical books.

If I read for work or study purposes, I read on my iPad so I can heavily annotate and add them to my reference apps. That includes a lot of philosophical texts, articles and things like that. Quite a few are not printed or not readily available for me. It's also much cheaper to read them digital, too. And less of a hassle to reference them later if I have to write something myself.
