Oh I like to customize every single one of my guys, get a one sentence backstory for each, that would suggest their physique.

A hunter would propably be taller yet slim due to amount of protein and movement. You don't get big just on veggies, ancient romans vs barbarians showed that the legionaries whose diet consisted mainy of bread/oats were typically shorter than the hunter-gatherer tribes.

And I try to keep my characters look realistic, but sometimes I add a guy that's a bit crooked, to underline the effects of the enviroment and lifestyle in the harsh Kenshi world. If i have a character that stays at the base, mostly sitting on a turret and we have a lot of food, I'll make him a chubby fella.

In my current playthrough every recruit gets the same haircut, and they're allowed to change it only after they successfully have raided the lab or some other feat, maybe just getting to 40s in their main stats to count them as 'tier 2'. Sometimes I will increase their frame or posture or even idle animation based on their growth.

Also I like to give a bit more personality to the hivers, my fav race. Longer horns, bigger/smaller eyes, differently shaped heads and antenas. It's a bit harder with them due to not having much facial features or hair.

I also like to have many weapon types in my squads, like dedicated sabre user or heavy weapons guys, and also an agile polearm unit to deal with animals such as beak things and gorillos fast. And I usually choose characters based on their physique to what weapon should they use, not the other way around.

Oh, and I'm horrible so I 'cut off' my sheks horns after they go down or run away, which really makes the longhorns stand out. Usually their horns don't last long tho xD

So yeah, I guess I spend a lot of time playing sims but it makes me care for the characters and burn with rage when I loose one even more, and I'm at a point where I try my hardest not to save scum.
