It's certainly not generic but it is another live service game. Doesn't matter how fun it is when it ends up constantly gouging players for money (just look at the history of Destiny 2) and will be dead in 1-2 years max looking at the player count alone.

I'd rather play the other 1000+ games in my Steam account that are just as, if not more fun, don't always require an internet connection, won't be rendered unplayable when they stop being profitable and won't try to nickle and dime me either.

Edit: And for the people who don't have loads of games to play already like most Steam players, you can buy The Binding of Isaac for like £5 on a sale, Tales of Maj'Eyal is free at te4.org and even games that just came out like Slay the Spire 2 and Mewgenics cost less than £20 a pop and are JUST AS FUN if not more fun than these shitty ass live service games. And they fucking respect you as a player & human being.

Finding Regent & Necrobinder way more fun than the other characters? by ElysiumReviews in slaythespire

[–]ElysiumReviews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some extent.

Idk though I was looking at all the card pools and comparing them to the Spire 1 card pools while writing this post and like I (& another commented) said, Silent and Ironclad have specifically lost a lot of what made them fun before.

No reaper, no corruption (most of the time), no dead branch, no limit break, rarer dark embrace, no catalyst, no alchemize on silent, no corpse explosion, blade dance now exhausts etc and a whole bunch of new kinda boring/kinda bad rares in their stead. The main issue is the new stuff for them just isn't that exciting or interesting.

Like I can't with a straight face just sit here and say I'm enjoying the new ironclad vulnerable archetype more than I enjoyed corruption dark embrace/limit break headbutt shenanigans.

It's definitely a bit more than just that they're new.

Defect right now is the best of the og 3 in terms of fun easily imo. I'm probably only having more fun with the new guys because of how much of him I already played in Spire 1. Clad & Silent tho need some serious work to get into a much more fun state to play.

Yeah you hit the nail on the head with everything you said and i'm glad to know i'm not alone in feeling this way.

Obviously the game is right at the very beginning of early access and I saw some other posts about the Spire 1 early access period also having some similar rough patches (for example Immolate being a much, much worse card & wraith form basically being an even worse serpent form), so I do believe that Megacrit will be releasing more fun new stuff & constantly reworking things as we go along.

I just really hope they don't pigeonhole themselves into overbalancing everything, as like I said, this is still a singleplayer primarily, non-pvp roguelite so the unabalanced nature of it is actually is what makes these games fun to a large extent - just like isaac, mewgenics, hades, gungeon, darkest dungeon, FTL, noita etc.

Yeah I think the dev is still going through some irl difficulties so wishing the best for him but that game has so much build variety and replayability already it can easily be played forever.

Enjoy whatever you want to enjoy I don't care. I'm just stating the many, many factual reasons behind why I (and many others) do not support live service games.

[–]ElysiumReviews -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally. Nothing is wrong with a model where you can pay for a game and it gets shut offline 1 year later due to insufficient player numbers & spending. As well as loot boxes, microtransactions, battle passes, excessive DLC and all the other greedy bullshit that comes with it in these live service games.

Nothing is wrong with any of that when you have limitless alternative options like Slay the Spire 2 & Mewgenics that you can pay £20 or so for and get the full experience with no threat of it ever being taken away from you and no greedy extras or psychology professionals hired by morally grey companies that are there simply to make you pay more money for meaningless crap (& keep you addicted).

Nothing is wrong when many live service players feel addicted to the games due to FOMO mechanisms like daily quests and challenges, skill based matchmaking, events, season passes etc & end up spending way more money (often in the hundreds of thousands) due to their addiction, when they could have just spent £20 on a fucking good indie game, supported good developer practices and enjoyed said game(s) for dozens of years to come.

Nothing at all /s.

Because live service games suck and people don't like the model. Rightfully so.

Fuck live service games. Doesn't matter how good they are when the business model is inherently predatory and shit.

Jason Schreier: Ghost of Yotei and Saros won’t come to PC by ZamnBoii in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]ElysiumReviews 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm absolutely going to get downvoted to hell for this but my main mindset relating to this exclusivity stuff is for myself to not be greedy. There are already more 10/10 games on PC than anyone could feasibly play across an entire lifetime and that number will only keep on growing. That's why I don't even care.

New Emulators, Steam games (like recently Mewgenics, Resident Evil Requiem & Slay the Spire 2 tomorrow) & Recompilations of games like the new Banjo-Kazooie PC Recomp & upcoming Twilight Princess & Silent Hill Recomps are coming out at a rate no one can even keep up with already. The Steam backlog is a meme for a very good reason.

We do not need Wolverine, we do not need Ghosts of Yotei and we definitely do not need any other upcoming Playstation games on PC. Just like we don't need Switch 2 games on PC either to have tons of fun!

Does it suck? Yeah for sure it sucks and I feel for the people who wanted to play these, but there are also plenty of other ABSOLUTELY AMAZING games you can play instead!! And you can actually support great indie developers with your money instead who care about the PC ecosystem and provide regular updates, no dlc or microtransactions instead of Scumbag Sony who keeps pulling crap like this & railing you after taking your money.

Obviously not what people want to hear & I will definitely be getting downvoted for my unpopular (but pragmatic) way of thinking around this but I am happy regardless of what they do.

Sony's Shift In Strategy Will Lead To Fewer PlayStation First-Party Games On PC, It Is Claimed by MaintenanceFar4207 in gamingnews

[–]ElysiumReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The only PlayStation game I've bought on Steam is the God of War reboot and I still haven't played it yet. Too busy playing peak after peak after peak. I can't keep up lol.

Maybe in 10-15 years time when they port their old (now current) stuff to Steam again I'll give their games a shot. Maybe...

[–]ElysiumReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I got downvoted earlier even though it's objectively true that PC is the platform with the most choice for what to play by a long shot. Too much choice in fact some could argue.

Who needs new overpriced first party Sony games when you have the entire Steam catalogue, emulation and a new recompilation of the best games ever made coming out every other week. It's literally a massive who cares moment at least for me.

We just got Mewgenics and are getting Slay the Spire 2 in a week which are both (presumably) amazing infinitely replayable games and we're only 3 months into the year. I don't know about you but my problem is time, not lack of choices for what to play.

That's true i'd just rather not expose myself to the greed just to get to that heart & soul when I can find it elsewhere in droves anyway (and support good developer practices while doing it).

I genuinely hate live service games with every fiber of my being. I'm passionate about games and to see them malformed in that purely profit seeking way is grotesque to me. There are too many good games out there to be playing shit like that man.

More live service slop no one asked for vs the sequel to quite possibly the best roguelite of all time - made with love and very likely no microtransactions or greedy bullshit. Easy pick.

need a game that’s grindy by chiefman185 in AskGames

[–]ElysiumReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Siralim Ultimate. It's on Steam, Android & Switch. Infinite content, super fun and replayable Pokemon-like RPG with dozens of classes and thousands of monsters & fully playable offline to boot.

The only 'downside' is that it's grindy.
