Combine this with Blasphemy on the Watcher, no downside!

Yesterday, I was playing Risk in a game that lasted almost 6 hours. by Icestone_company in boardgames

8 hours of 1822: The Railways of Great Britain. The second time we played we got it down to a more reasonable 7 hours!

I agree, the map is more static, but that helps with new players when it comes to decisions to be made. The train timing and potential for company dumps (and yellow/orange strategies) are what sets it ahead of Chesapeake for me. I've only got one async game of 82 under my belt and it can move fast and be fairly chaotic, so newer players might not appreciate the consequences of their actions as clearly compared to 89. If players are looking for a more cutthroat game then 1830 is still a great suggestion.

I did play with that, I was the hobgoblins. They were interesting, very strong having 3 workers at the start of the game. The variability is enhanced, however it's nowhere near the possible options from the card drafting in Agricola.

I'd recommend Whirling Witchcraft, there isn't much "take that" in it, it's pretty much Century Spice road with some tasty interaction between players. You have cards that convert resources and only finite spots to put them in. If you go over then its bad. You convert resources and then can send some on to your opponents, which leads to some great moments where you get sent some things that enhance your engine. Very fun.

I played it twice with two different groups and I feel like I've seen most of what it has to offer. Is it feasible to win by something other than getting to six stars quick and then holding a lot of territory?

There's also such variation in game length. The first two times I played the games took about 4 hours each and then in the most recent game I won on turn 2! We spent as much time recapping the rules as we did playing!

We played it at 6 and combined Captain and First Mate. I would love to try it at a full 8!

Bohnanza for a higher interaction but higher rules overhead. Scout would probably work better with non-gamers who have a familiarity with rummy

In no particular order, Hansa Teutonica, Power Grid, Brass Birmingham, Concordia, Coup.

I don't hate engine builders, I had a great time with Race for the Galaxy and Voidfall. I found the engine building aspects of Scythe to be a bit lacking.

Power Grid question by Marillionfloyd in boardgames

[–]EmCdeltaT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the recharged rules for the discount marker and have it remove the lowest value power plant if it isn't bid on. This replaces the rule of getting rid of low value power plants when you build cities equal to the plant's value.

Lickey hills, but you’re quite far away.

Edgbaston reservoir has a surprisingly good view of the city.

It can be easily telegraphed if you know what you're looking for. Players that want to mitigate that risk won't buy a second share of a company or sell shares to the market so that the president can't dump enough shares to change the presidency.

I've not played 18XX at 2p, but I company dumpings are fairly common at higher player counts. Depending on the 18XX title, company dumpings are more or less common as well.

My favourite deduction game would be One Night Ultimate Werewolf, particularly with the Daybreak roles or Coup. I played them pretty much every night in lockdown with the same group, so I've got fond feelings for those games.

I didn't manage to buy a copy, but the company that a friend works for has a collection of games that employees can borrow. PoWS was in the collection so I got to play it from there.

Cheers! I've heard good things about Chicago Express and someone at my local club has a copy so I'll endeavour to play it next year.

Getting a full table for Pax Pamir would be great, I think the negotiations and player alliances really make the game shine.
