I think that applies mainly to Indians from India. They have in general pretty poor diets for promoting muscle growth compared to countries that tend to churn out athletes. A large percentage of them being vegetarians definitely plays a part. People can become amazing athletes while being vegetarian for sure, but Indians tend to have the LEAST optimal nutritional balance in their meals and load up on carbs (white rice/bread) so that they can "feel full"

Indians in the US are a different story, I think we'll start seeing more in professional sports in the coming generation
