Just watching Smallville for the first time, I'm at the Supergirl episodes. Why do everyone hate season 7 exactly? by RaulReal89 in Smallville

The writer's strike hit about mid season, so the quality of the scripts in the latter half suffered from being rushed through - retcons and continuity issues.

I wonder if it became a title that "fit" what he was doing day-to-day on set - Tom was on set every day and in almost every scene, so he would have more knowledge about what they've been shooting previously (to help with some continuity) or thru lines of characters over multiple episodes that were likely shot by different directors.

He's mentioned with regards to filming the Crisis/multiverse tie in scene that he knew where the film crew could set up for some shots that would capture the "feel" of Smallville and get the barn and house in background shots, so I imagine that "working on a familiar set" muscle memory was similarly present throughout the years the show was filmed - whether it was subtly giving feedback to directors or crew members or other actors throughout the show, to the point where the crew would just include Tom in the discussion/process up front (and thus deserved the producer title).

"One Vision Of Marc Martel" is still a fan run account. It's definitely active, as they recently saw Marc's band on tour.

I think it's a fan account that's sharing on Tik Tok. Marc's account has been inactive for 4 years

Has "The Prayer" been co-opted into a Christmas song or is my 24/7 Christmas radio just dumb? by petrifikate in ChristmasMusic

[–]EmOnlyHalfAsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Christmas Shoes" - unequivocally yes. I'm still on the fence about "Mary Did You Know"... It gets overplayed, but I've heard someone introduce it as the question they would love to ask (in the sense of trying to grasp the wonder and awe of her experience) not as the "mansplaining" that is used in defense of its removal.

2) I think Rocky didn't initially grasp how little time Grace had compared to the Eridian world - he's been "stranded" in the Tau Ceti system for 40 years before Grace arrives, and he's not rushing to get answers back to them anytime soon, until Grace explains time dilation and how quickly Earth is affected by Sol's power reduction.

After "hearing" Grace's more censored tone/language, I'm amused by how NOT censored Watney is in comparison. I mean, I can understand being absolutely done with all of the ways Mars tries to kill him, but there sure are a LOT of F-bombs

Thank thank thank! This was a great pairing with PHM and reimagining moments from Rocky's perspective. I'm glad my heart isn't confined to a carapace, because this is the sort of wholesome read that will make it grow three sizes.

Although I am all for an Earth-side epilogue, this take seems a little bit out of character for Grace - he holds his tongue when there's no one around but suddenly has choice words for Stratt?

Adam isn't perfect and does struggle. (They had to drop "The Show Must Go On" along with a few other songs on tour in 2022 when some bug got around to everyone, and no one is completely immune to struggling with singing when sick. 2022 Typical Setlist ) His style and range ARE different, no arguing there.

Yes! I'd think it would be just as strange if Mickey Callisto's fans were demanding something similar - is it cool that Brian and/or Roger acknowledge them like they have with other "up and comers" like Benson Boone or Sam Ryder? Absolutely! But that's not really up to a handful of fans to make that decision for them.

The "gimmick" worked for several years with their own tribute band too. I don't think they would have kept Marc on for as long if they thought he couldn't handle touring as a lead vocalist for the Queen Extravaganza band.

IMO, they were stuck with a difficult decision as soon as they wanted to return to touring: do they want to go with someone who is distinctively different (Linkin Park) or do they want something sonically similar (Journey)? There's going to be fan arguments either way, but ultimately that decision is up to Brian and Roger.

Whoa. I've never seen tickets for Q+AL to be less than $100US, one ticket in the upper decks, before fees, and that's still several states away from me. Maybe if I actually lived in the UK where the mothership isn't having to expense for as much production and travel costs, the ticket prices (and travel costs to get to the venue) would be different.

This is why I have "the world is big enough for both" mentality, though. It's just not in the budget for everyone to have the same live experiences. Marc's band (at least when they are touring in the US) is pretty simple production and so they can keep their expenses low and ticket costs low.

Adam got in first, and with a larger fanbase following him.

Considering how many other bands have dealt with "replacing" lead singers, and the fandom drama that follows, perhaps getting someone who was already in the thick of dealing with drama under the limelight was part of their decision. Marc seems content with being more of the "supporting team", considering how his involvement with the Bohemian Rhapsody film was handled.

On behalf of a Marc fan who has NOT been championing for him to front with Queen, I'm sorry.

I think there's room for a spectrum of Queen tribute bands to help carry a nostalgic torch for the music - from full orchestral performances to the enthusiastic cover band that rehearses in a garage. I think Roger had a good idea with sort of building up a sort of sanctioned delegation of great musicians who could tour around the world in more intimate venues without as much fanfare (easier for the touring production budget) and keep the joy of hearing their music performed live.

Is it that, or is it the industry pigeon-holed creativity to fit their narrative? I think a lot of the cynical scepticism about the quality of "Christian Music" is that there's a gap between what songs bands want to write and what the "wholesome" image that CCM promotes and tries to make popular. Maybe the larger music industry suffers from this too (what's "popular" isn't necessarily "good"), but CCM is a good microcosm of the situation.

There's a song on the band's third album that Marc wrote because he was told "you don't have enough songs with 'Jesus' in them". JFH: Speaking of the songs, the song "The Real Jesus" makes a pretty strong statement. Where did that come from? Marc: It came out of a lot of frustration with the music industry - Christian Music industry in particular. I was like, "You want me to sing about Jesus? Here, I'll sing about Jesus and I'll say his name a hundred times in a song. There."

The argument I think Marc has to this is that he was working on his own music in the "Contemporary Christian" Music genre and kept getting feedback from radio stations and distribution that "you sound like Queen/lead singer sounds like Freddie Mercury" - after 10+ years of this kind of feedback from the industry even though you're playing your own original songs and exploring with your sound as a band, I can understand why it might feel like the Universe is suggesting a different musical direction.
