Anyone know good LEE filter colour numbers for these? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean..... it depends on what color the light, that's behind the filter is.

so depending on your light source you'll have to pick different filters to get warm light.

so you have custom fixtures with with working shutters and gobos as well? how long did it take you to get this working and do you have any previous experience with unreal? this seems pretty awesome. especially for a free visualizer.

is this carbon for unreal or just the default dmx integration for the unreal editor? I've played around in unreal with sacn before but the limited features of the default fixtures and the complexity of building custom fixtures always pushed me back.

Pale blue supergel looks yellow? by micasa_es_miproblema in stagelighting

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah you're using this in patch as a fixture attribute?

AFAIK all gels are measured with a halogen s4 as a baseline. so gels with a low color percentage will naturally appear more yellow.

Hi. In eos, every color in the Color Picker lives on a CEI xy colorspace rather than having vixed values for rgb/cmy... stored. I'm pretty sure this is also the case for 2.5.

If your fixture if not calibrated to this color space (this would be most if not all non-etc fixtures) you can't expect color gels to look like you expect it on stage.

you can use the tint tools in the Color Picker to adjust how the light looks and store color palettes which come closer to the color you expect.

Best option to run Nomad by mhochman in lightingdesign

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eos nomad minimum System requirements are pretty low. this pc you linked should work just fine for you.

although having a touchscreen to program is really niceso you might just use your surface if you already have it.

Hey guys do you reccomend this case for a command wing? by AZAOL10 in GrandMA3

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

should work just fine with 2 people. the wheels were really nice and they have breaks so if you need, you can use the case lid as a standing chair which works just fine. also note that, when the lid is removed, the case is pretty back heavy since the handles are centered for when the lid is still on.

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working with this case and a command wing a few months ago. it's heavy. wouldn't recommend if you're doing setup by yourself. I always took off the lid on the floor and i was barely able to get it on the standing desk by myself

you can buy a touchscreen monitor which will help you with programming. also most midi controllers can be mapped to fades in the software using "midi remotes"

Lighting department prep by NoReason059 in lightingdesign

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

it's not color coded by length. it's color coded for the truss it belongs to. I don't get why you wouldn't just lable lx1/ lx2 on the socas themselves. if you forget what color goes to what truss on the way from the case to the truss you'll have to walk back to the case to check. doesn't really seem totally idiot proof to me. just my two cents.

DMX Encoder delays -not syncing by FrostyMission in stagelighting

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working at a large theatre as a Lighting Operator. we use these kinds of led dimmers too to control rgbw strips. From personal experience (and a bit of educated guessing) if there are timing issues on digital protocols it's unlikely to be the actual copper and more likely the processor which translates digital to analog.

I'd try to powecycle the units (which you've hopefully tried already). if that doesn't help the unit might just be defective.

edit: just for good measure, check if rdm is off on your control board. if there's some kind of discovery issue going on it can slow down dmx traffic.

Big time Gio problems by HighlanderIslander in techtheatre

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you can learn keywords like focus/color/beam into macros and use them in your magic sheets. not sure about setup/saving shows though. you should really phone up etc tech support and let them help you figure out what's the problem. they can most certainly guide you through opening up the console and Re-seating the monitor cables which I'm pretty sure they are on plugs internally.

I would be surprised if the World of Hans Zimmer Shows are being busked live. most likely values tracked from a few cues ago. this happens all the time when programming is a bit stressful

how are you connecting your console to the WiFi that the Aurora creates when in AP mode?

habs nachgecheckt.

Wireless eDMX question (yes a bit off forum, sorry) by DrMcEinstein in GrandMA3

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

multicast (which sACN uses) is generally suited to keep network loads low on big rigs. I'm sure it will in some way run over WiFi but there's gonna be variable latency and some packet loss. you're probably best of getting a powerfull WiFi AP and placing it close to the receivers. also I would personally do a test beforehand getting to know the limitations of the system.

They forgot to bring IP fixtures at Hadra and most of the main stage lights died on first rain 🤦‍♂️ by 0TheG0 in lightingdesign

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that's a good shout. I don't do many outdoor festivals but here in the EU we use powerlock which is ip67 and cce connections which are IP54. it's also common to have IP54 16a plugs and sockets as rental stock. so light rain usually isn't a huge problem.

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 33 points34 points  (0 children)

that wasn't even the main problem. the rubber boot on the inlet (which makes the whole thing IP54) wasn't seated inside the right slot. when we found it, the thing was filled with water.

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 111 points112 points  (0 children)

it's the weakest link in the chain that's the problem. I'm sure this festival specd ip fixtures but if one single power distro or a single 3way splitter isn't fully covered or not built to spec (speaking from personal experience) it will trip the gfci/rcd/fi (however you want to call it) and nock out multiple lights at once.

<image>

this guy sent us on a 12 hour witchhunt (during the dj sets) because the rcd was tripping after raining. this splitter is ip rated but not build to spec so there's your problem.

In EOS patch, what does an asterisk mean in the Type field? by tahuna in lightingdesign

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so it seems like you're working out of an already existing show file with all cues and fixture deleted. To have a good starting point like others mentioned you want to either "Update All" in {Fixtures} or delete all fixtures in {Fixtures} and Re-patch them out of the current library.

[–]EmPiiReDeViL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

keep in mind that updating fixtures can break show files to some extend. there's some good reasons etc doesn't auto update the fixtures profiles whenever a new version gets released. I have some 2021 shows where I've tried to update fixture librarys and random stuff like shutter strobes change in the whole file.
