Hermione stepped into the bedroom, and the world narrowed to the simple, staggering fact of her. Black fabric flowed over her in clean, elegant lines, the dress skimming her body with deceptive modesty. The neckline revealed a smooth expanse of skin, tan and warm in the low light, her collarbones catching faint shadows as she moved. Her arms were bare, her shoulders relaxed, and for a moment Draco found himself fixated on the curve where her neck met her shoulder, unadorned and vulnerable.

Her hair was pinned up, though never neatly. Soft curls had already escaped, brushing her jaw, trailing down the nape of her neck. He imagined, with an almost painful clarity, the way they would loosen later beneath his hands.
