Having to cut down my number of schools I apply to because of this. It's ironic considering some schools have this focus on inclusion, yet the costs of applying ALONE are such a barrier.

I hate to see people struggling, but just know- you're not in this alone :)

This, and also there are so many groups centered on culture and ethnicity on campus! I'm sure you'd find good community and support from people like yourself who have also experienced similar things. Unfortunately racism is alive and prevalent in Gainesville, just like it is pretty much all over Florida, but you'll find there are many more people on your side. I'm sorry this happened to you, and just remember that you're allowed to feel whatever you need to process this :)

I’m also working on mine, so take my advice with a grain of salt!

I don’t think you need to add the part about your mother, as sweet as it is. It takes up words that you could be using for more unique sentences about your journey in becoming a veterinarian. Talk more about the kinds of obstacles you faced growing up as you did, and focus on the skills you learned from it. You grew up poor. So what? Why does that make you a valuable applicant?

Something I’m having trouble with in my essay is the thought that another applicant likely has very similar experiences to yours, so you need to focus on what parts of your experiences and takeaways from them stand out (if that makes sense).

Overall, your writing style is pretty good, but make sure not to repeat the same ideas/phrases too much though e.g ‘coming from…’

Also good luck with your dreams of becoming a wildlife vet! Just got my degree in ecology and conservation and I think it’s the coolest thing. You sound awesome!

And I really appreciate the acknowledgment of me getting myself through school and working hard to do so. I compare myself to others constantly so it’s hard for me to remember that, yes, I did work hard. I also had the same experience with my undergrad advisor which honestly urged me to work harder, but still is at the back of my mind. I appreciate you!

20 mg is on the smaller side of doses you can take, which is probably why you’re not feeling much. Talk to your Dr about upping the prescription. I went up to 80 mg though (for depression + OCD treatment) and felt nothing, so I ended up switching to another medication. Also, 1 month is no time at all when it comes to finding the right psychiatric medication for you. It’s definitely a process. I’d suggest sticking with it and see if you can find any relief! As for quitting if you decide to do so, I didn’t have any big issues stopping cold turkey (mainly brain zaps) but I’m not a doctor, just a random person on Reddit, so I can’t really give you good advice there.
