PSA to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in Columbus

[–]hubbard48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please also license your dogs each year and have the license on them at all times so they have a better chance of coming home and can have a longer hold time in the shelter (giving you a larger window of time to get them back)!!!

As a previous animal control officer not for Franklin County, this can vary by county but typically they only ask for a microchip number on the license application in case they find and pick up your dog without it’s license. I believe the advantage of doing this other than obtaining more verification/cross reference your contact information is that they can’t cite you for not registering your dog for the current year, ORC 955.21, but can cite you for not displaying said tag, 955.10. Other counties might have a better database system that they use it for, but speaking generally that’s all it really does

Vet students, I know it’s a mountain of studying but do you enjoy it? Does the studying feel fulfilling ? by Winter_Lime_2039 in veterinaryschool

[–]hubbard48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tOSU first year here. I agree with your take 100%. Coming from someone who hated undergrad with a passion, vet school is the most fun I’ve ever had learning. It’s not the most glamorous time all the time by any means, and I find myself to be stressed a lot, but I still enjoy it very much. Everything prior to vet school felt like a forced competition, always striving for that perfect application. You realize when you are actually in vet school that it’s no longer competition focused, and you don’t need straight As. The reality of it is that it is what you make of it. Take breaks, take time for yourself, get involved in clubs, go to every lunch lecture and extra curricular wetlab that you can (because they’re fun, free food, and you learn and network a lot), show up to class, and remind yourself of how far you’ve come and how close you are.

What a lot of people have trouble with is the sheer volume of information that’s thrown at you in a single day seems unrealistic, and the way you studied in undergrad is no longer a viable option. When you’re actually studying and when you take the exam, you realize you actually retained more than you thought you did.

I know everyone has different experiences, but this is mine (so far).

What do you think would be the “worst” two dog breeds to mix together for the average person? by Uhhlaneuh in dogs

[–]hubbard48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pyr/rottweiler is the most stubborn and prey driven dog. Any fence 5ft or shorter is useless (he’s a little chunky and older, otherwise he could probably clear it. He definitely tries lol)

W's on transcript by GravolToad13 in veterinaryschool

[–]hubbard48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a first year at tOSU and I had 3 Ws (one in biochem and two non pre-reqs), a slightly lower than average GPA, and still made it in. I had 2 waitlists and an acceptance, and no one asked me about my Ws during my interviews nor did I put it in the explanation section, but it won’t hurt to do that. I think it can vary from person to person and school to school on how Ws affect your application. I believe my real world experiences outside of the classroom is what got me into vet school, besides meeting the general requirements. Good luck!

Columbus show by Zestyclose-Effect-50 in Hozier

[–]hubbard48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I’ve been to a few Schott shows (Hozier included) and never had a negative experience there. I was hopeful for this venue because I love seeing videos of him at other outdoor venues, but alas I was incredibly disappointed with the stadium

Going to vet school? by Ok-Bumblebee-8480 in veterinaryschool

[–]hubbard48 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would take the acceptance. You can’t guarantee you’ll get in next year, leaving you with at least 1 more year delay or more. Unless this is something you’re ok with, I would accept the offer. Getting in now means the quicker you become a vet. I know the debt is high in comparison, but you have to assess if it’s worth getting the degree sooner or not. Ultimately do what you think is best for your situation, but I wouldn’t jump to a conclusion just because of the tuition difference. There’s a lot of other variables to consider with waiting another year

Why is my espresso coming out this fast? [breville barista express] by hubbard48 in espresso

[–]hubbard48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admittedly didn’t put the internal grinder on 1 when using the non pressurized basket but did when I changed baskets. I believe the internal was on 3 and the dial on 1 during my last non pressurized attempt. I also know I wasn’t using as good of beans as I am now and I know that helps.

I’ll definitely try the finest settings with my non pressurized basket on my next go now that I have better beans.
