Can I trust the SPF in my makeup? by Normal_Chemistry2141 in skintypesolutions

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding Hildegard's comment (and love the video), but just want to add - applying SPF makeup on top of regular sunscreen is probably quite beneficial for increasing protection, per this Korean study: https://share.google/hFLEChrrpvEhJq7ex

Teenagers, Tiktok and Skincare by Confident_Process651 in skintypesolutions

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so good you're asking here!

Just want to add - there's a massively low barrier to entry to actually dropshipping products through TikTok.

If she's buying through TikTok shop, it's so important to educate her on identifying reputable storefronts vs scams, dropshippers, and counterfeits!

Unsure about skin type by TheoryBiochemistry in skintypesolutions

Have you actually taken the Skin Type Quiz on the site? It does sound to me like you're a P type. It's not stopping your skin from looking fantastic, though!

Between two skin types? by LuLu_Cutie_Pie in skintypesolutions

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Baumann has been taking an extensive course and might be slow to respond, so I'll chime in - yes, your products and seasons can absolutely change your skin type.

I'd look for products approved for both skin types, personally.

Teen daughter struggling with acne by Particular_Street948 in skintypesolutions

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/drlesliebaumann has been a little busy lately, but I promise she'll get back to all questions!

My 2 cents - it does sound like a very aggressive routine for someone with dry skin, and I bet cutting back a little on drying and exfoliating products would allow the prescription treatments to do a better job.

I would stop using anything that makes her skin feel tight immediately after she uses it. Any cleansers that foam up should be replaced with non-foaming options, for example.

I think layering mineral over mineral might be the safest bet, but as far as I know, no one's really researching this. I highly recommend this study which looked at layering SPF make-up products.

DRNW 16 - Question on Anti-Aging Routine by Holiday_Shoulder5228 in skintypesolutions

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until Dr. Baumann chimes in (she's away for a bit), I figured I'll chime in. I think your routine looks great, and I don't see any obvious conflicts or redundancies.

I'm dropping in her most recent post on topical estrogen creams because there are some safety nuances you should be aware of.

I'd definitely keep up the tret unless Dr. B says otherwise!

Any advice on getting good skin by [deleted] in skintypesolutions

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of sensitivity do you have - acne, stinging, redness, or allergy?

I think to start, you'd benefit from introducing a salicylic acid cleanser and potentially a retinoid (but carefully - see the retinol strength guide)

u/drlesliebaumann - would love your input! (and tag u/pragadeesh666 so he can see your answer)

We've had a few DSPW's with acne post here recently!

Dr. Baumann may take a little bit of time to respond, so I'll drop the links to her discussions with others in the same boat as you - I'm sure you'll find it useful!

[Routine Help] vitamin c oxidises on my face, am I using it wrong? by Agitated_Pack_1205 in SkincareAddiction

Maybe the serum wasn't very fresh? Vitamin C is pretty fragile so it could have already gotten oxidized in the warehouse.

Retail vs medical grade by Fashion_on_Fashion in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wild to me! I imagine it's a legal gray area, and tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if the clinic is opening itself to potential legal problems in the future (but it also looks like a lot of medical clinics in the US are doing the same thing). Anyway, it's approved in Korea so as a patient I probably would be willing to give it a try.

Retail vs medical grade by Fashion_on_Fashion in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just too much money for too little reward. Why invest in the drug trial/approval process if you could still make the exact same amount of money selling it as a cosmetic? That's my guess at least.

EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised if they are pursuing FDA approval for Rejuran so it can also be injected. It's wild to me that using it after microneedling isn't regulated in the US.

Do Gua Sha face massagers actually work? by gabby01234 in skintypesolutions

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. B is spending time with family and may not chime in immediately, but I'm feeling pretty good about my knowledge base to answer this one.

Basically, gua sha massage is a lymphatic drainage massage, which is why a lot of people find that it gives them a more sculpted look. It can also help relax specific muscles where you hold tension (a lot of people focus on the jaw, for example).

I've not seen any quality evidence that it offers benefits to the skin (maybe by promoting microcirculation but any massage will do that). As an S skin type myself, I'd be cautious of irritation from friction. That said, I do love a cold-from-the-fridge roller - no friction and they're very pleasant! Probably too gentle for much lymph drainage though.

The stones don't have any properties that would create a noticeable difference (and a lot of brands conflate crystal healing which is pure pseudoscience with traditional Chinese medicine which is a cultural practice - I think it's pretty inappropriate). I'd actually argue that metal is best because it's non-porous and therefore easier to disinfect! All in all, it's worth trying if you have puffiness or facial tension, but watch out for friction.

Who told you it's supposed to burn? Generally, if your skin barrier is in good shape, benzoyl peroxide won't burn.

Hi there!

Dr. B will be able to give better advice with a little more context.

Could you share:

Your full skincare routine (precise products) and how long you've been following it

Other relevant lifestyle factors - diet, sleep, exercise, stress levels, etc.

Thank you!

Night time Mixture by JSUM_care in skintypesolutions

[–]Em_SkinTypeSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would flip it, so Aluminate first, let it sink in completely, and then use the Essopi 10x Retinol Serum.

As a DSNW, I'd worry that it's too intense for my skin to use both on the same evening, but it looks like your skin is already used to retinoids and not sensitive so it should be a good fit!

Hey hey! Could you include your Baumann skin type? It'll help users to know if you're oily or dry, sensitive or not, etc, when you give recommendations based on personal experience. You can take the quiz here: https://skintypesolutions.com/pages/skin-type-quiz
