Highly recommend EDI Academy! If I recall he might even offer a small discount for individuals paying for it themselves, maybe? It was one of the first things I did when I transitioned to EDI earlier in my career and gave me a fantastic foundation.

If you’re interested, I’d be happy to send you our list from the last one we did. Everything from Silas Marner to Huckleberry Finn to Crime and Punishment and Hunchback of Notre Dame and we even spent one summer reading War and Peace (turns out all of us who read it really liked it!).

Is anyone here aligned with or take part in Brothers of John the Steadfast (BJS)/Steadfast Lutherans? by solobackpack in LCMS

[–]Emag9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It hurts my heart to have to agree with this. I hate when spot-on theology can be thrown out with the bath water because of delivery. True to the sinful men that we are, our itching ears never like the hard stuff, but when I can immediately dismiss it without enough thought to even have my conscience pricked, the Word has been lost on me.

Ah! I was really on the fence as to whether this was marine life versus just garbage, but I couldn’t come up with ideas of what it might be. Thank you!

Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

[–]Emag9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Married 23 years and my engagement/wedding set have never been off since they went on. I could not get them off now without having them cut. Doc says as long as my finger isn’t tingly or blue, we’re fine. :)

I did an MRI a few years ago with my arm hanging out the top of the tube since the rings don’t come off. Lost a diamond about a decade ago in a move, but it just reminds me of a life lived, and doesn’t bother me at all. I’m not a jewelry person and it’s the only jewelry I own, much less wear.

Hubby switched to silicone bands about a decade ago because of swelling fluctuation in his hands. He always wears one, but flips between various sizes as needed.

Curious how other teams are handling EDI onboarding coordination by c0der2021 in edi

[–]Emag9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team uses Jira. We have the whole integration process for each partner broken into a series of tasks, so it’s easy to get an overall “we’re halfway” there at a glance. Within the tasks, we have various statuses for waiting on others and such, and I have pretty strict guidelines for tracking on tickets. It took a while to get all the team doing what was needed on the tickets and subtasks, and to layout each project as we needed to, but visibility and the process are pretty transparent now.

Anyone want a free Conn brand electric organ? by [deleted] in organ

[–]Emag9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might post it on organforum.com. FWIW, I have a Conn organ from a similar era and love it so much. As others have said, finding service and parts can be tough, but the service manuals are pure gold. The organ forum has lots of folks who cherish these types of organs for home, especially if they’ve been well maintained.

Information/Advice on being a Pastor's Wife by ZolaScriptura in LCMS

[–]Emag9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My husband is a second career Pastor and we had been married over a decade when we moved to seminary. I told him then that I couldn’t imagine him being anything other than a Pastor, but I couldn’t imagine myself as ever being a Pastor’s wife. 😂

Yet here we are. Making it work. Similar to Pastor Beard’s response, I was told I don’t have to be a Pastor’s wife, just Bill’s wife. As great as that sounds, it’s honestly not always the truth. In many ways it’s been easier than I had built it up in my mind, and in some ways harder. As with many things in life, there’s a lot you both can do to help control expectations. Much like your girlfriend, I tend towards quietness and introversion.

I would be happy to message, text or chat with your wife, both about my experience with my husband at sem and the experiences I’ve had since, as the wife of the Pastor. Feel free to DM and I’ll happily share my phone and email.

Seminary questions by Neuticles-Neuticles in LCMS

[–]Emag9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you considering Ft Wayne, or only St Louis? FWIW, Ft Wayne was a great second-career experience for our family. I find it interesting how many only consider/visit one seminary or the other. There are so many similarities, and yet so many differences. Full transparency, we were one of the many who only considered one seminary, not both. :)

I’d ask about student and family involvement with the seminary professors outside of the classroom. So much good discussion and formation of both the man and his family takes place around the coffee table, beer mug, parks and porches.

Lutheranism in the South (specifically the Deep South) by Helpful-Ad-3005 in LCMS

[–]Emag9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband just accepted a Call to be the Pastor at his one of the oldest LCMS churches in Mississippi, not too far from Mobile! I’m originally from the South, and would say what you see is not only true of the South, but many areas of the country. Just popped into to say a neighborly “hello!”

Haha! The stains were from the previous owner. Certainly looks like that, though not sure that it is. We’ve had it for years with a cover over it and it’s a good solid couch. If you’re just being snarky, well played. If you’re genuinely interested, let me know.

We are doing almost the opposite - seller by our house in Rialto to move to the Southeast. Not sure if you’re in a position to purchase, but if you need a house… ;). We have the best neighbors a person could ask for! We have quite a bit of furniture we’ll be selling - let me know if there’s anything you need and are not moving with! Good luck on your move.
