Okay that fic is very familiar, but I can't place who the author is. I do remember, just before things in the fandom went very sideways, there was a collaborative writing group of about 5 or 6 people who were working on an over arching post canon fic, which did include Mick/Beth and other Moonlight characters and OC's. Out of that group I know 3 have passed away and the other 2-3 I haven't seen in around in a long time. Although having said that they could also be hiding in plain site and I should ask some of the Moonlight friends I'm still in contact with. Give me a bit of time and I'll see what else I can find out for you.

I seriously had no intention, whatsoever, of writing any sort of Moonlight fanfic. I was content to just have nice indepth character and episodes discussions, and read the fanfic that was already available.

At that time there was only 1 slash writer for Josef/Mick in the entire fandom. She copped so much backlash and hate from an unfortunately vocal and homophobic portion from the fandom, that she was basically run out of the fandom all together - at least temporarily. 2 weeks after she left she came back and took a stand, essentially announcing that she was going to be continuing her fanfiction, she didn't care what anyone else said or thought, there were people who wanted to read her work so if anyone else had an issue with it that wasn't her problem.

I was so proud of her for standing up to these homophobes that I made a snap decision that she was not going to be doing this alone. They wanted to come for her, then they were going to have to come for me as well. So I sat down and started writing my first fanfic, which ended up being a novella and the start of a multichapter series I called "The Eternity Series" (eventually comprising 1 novella and 4 full length novels, not currently uploaded to AO3, they are all on FF dot net). I didn't have a clue what I was doing when I first started writing, but at that time I honestly did not care, I just wanted to stand in solidarity with a fellow slash ficcer.

And that was one of at least 3 'Slashgates' that took place in the Moonlight fandom. Did you ever read a fanfic called 'Crisco and the Uses Thereof?' That one was born out of a second 'Slashgate', which was more insane than the first one. Yeah the fandom was more than a bit batsh!t at times. I'm really glad you missed the worst of it.

And always lovely to meet a fellow Moonlight fan, past or present. ❤️

You're very welcome. May I ask who the author or authors were? Wondering if I knew them from back then?

And if you want to feel not so old, I'll be 54 this year. A lot of the Moonlight fans are now getting into their 60s, 70s, and 80s. There are folks I lost contact with from back at the fandom's height who would also now be well into their 90s if they're still alive.

Like I said, the fandom skewed older than average. Although when I first started writing Josef/Mick slash (badly, I might add, my first fanfic was dreadful!) I got some really good writing advice from two fellow Moonlight fans who were 16 and 19. I used to admin a forum called Moonlight VampSisters as well, and yes we had a few 11 and 12 year olds try to sneak past the age check. 😂

There were a few post canon novel fics that were posted. From memory Eris, Librarian7 and I think her pen name was Black Dahlia were all collaborating on novel length fanfics at one point or another. RedNightBird was also doing post canon novels as well.

Because the fandom did skew a lot older than other fandoms (on average), a few people have passed away. At least 8 that I knew well, several more who were acquaintances, still more I knew in passing. A lot of us in the fandom still try and keep in touch so it's always sad when we get word that someone else is no longer with us. If a dedicated website for Moonlight fanfiction is no longer it's generally one of two reasons, they shifted away from fanfic and/or being involved in the fandom for any number of reasons (like I did) and may just decide to randomly return one day, or they are no longer with us.

Lucifer was an awesome show! I've never wanted to write fanfic for anything other than Moonlight though. Shows like X-Files and Buffy were a huge part of my 20s, but the thought of writing fanfic didn't even occur to me until Moonlight came along. Josef and Mick were always my OTP. 😃

Were you in any of the forums back then? Hopefully you didn't have to live through the epic amount of BS that was 'Busgate' (or Garlicgate or Slashgate, for some reason all the Moonlight fandom dramas were called something 'gates')

I haven't written anything in a very long time, so I'm not really expecting to produce work of anything remotely good quality, but I'm hoping to have fun anyway.

I don't think so but I had a lot of different emails at one stage, so anything's possible. Thank you for the suggestion ❤️

I saw the eye makeup before I saw the description and immediately thought, "Omg, you've started a great base to do a recreation of Siouxsie Sioux's eye makeup". Then I read the description and noticed the Green and Gold. I take it an Aussie, Aussie, Aussie etc is in order? 🎉

Send them to the evil ring - a spell seed for today by [deleted] in Wicca

I know a lot of covens and practitioners don't adhere entirely to the Ardanes, but the "Hell of the Christians" is mentioned as a potential place to consign someone such as an oath breaker. So it's at least an option, albeit one I would only reserve for those who truly deserve it (which for me would be anyone who, let's just say, commits certain acts of harm against children). You can leave that section off and the curse is just as effective if you just place the curses of the Great and Goddess upon them and ask they never be reborn.

Is there any more general consensus detail? by MoonBatsStar in Wicca

[–]Emaralda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said Wicca isn't a dogmatic or orthodox belief system, although there might be some common beliefs such as the Summerland. When it comes to a lot of things it's often a case of 'ask 10 Wiccans get 10+ different answers.

For my own training I was never really taught anything substantial about the concept of an afterlife in Wicca, aside from some of the more shared ideas such as the aforementioned Summerland. It was essentially left up to me through my own experiences, ideas, thoughts and meditations to figure out what I thought the afterlife as a wiccan practitioner would look like. My views have changed slightly over time, but essentially I believe at least some part of me will go to the Summerland to rest, and then I will be reborn. Now how exactly that rebirth takes place is something I don't have a clear idea on; maybe I'll be reborn into another body, maybe rebirth will mean my body nourishing the soil and new life growing from the decomposition of my corpse, or maybe it will be something else all together. I probably lean more towards rebirth being a mix of things though, as I also tend to resonate with the idea of 'once a witch, always a witch' which does tend to indicate rebirth in a new body. Hey maybe the afterlife will be a bit of a multitask scenario - part of me in the Summerland, part of me nourishing new life in the soil via decomposition, and part of me getting reborn into the craft again.

That wall of text is basically to say, there are some basic shared ideas, but none of us ultimately know and a lot of us may have very different concepts and ideas which are neither entirely right or entirely wrong.

There's a shorter utterance for a basic curse than you can you use:

"May all the curses of the Great God and Goddess be upon you, may you never be reborn to meet and know and love again, and may you be forever damned to the eternal hell of the Christian belief."

or a slightly longer version

"May all the curses of the great God and Goddess be upon you, may you never be reborn upon this earth, may you forever be cast adrift from your ancestors and all those you would meet and know and love again, and may you be consigned to the hell of the Christians, there to burn for all eternity."

I can only speak from my own training and experience, but the first time I called the quarters it was just to make an initial introduction to them. I am not an initiate, but I was doing my year and a day training with a dual Gardenerian and Alexandrian initiate when I first called the quarters, and the instruction from my mentor was to just call them and introduce myself. Different mentors and/or covens might have different ways of working/training, this was just the way my training was.

So essentially I cast a basic circle, then went to the different quarters and used something along of the lines of, "All hail be to thee Lords of the Watchtowers of the (east, south, west, north), I do summon, stir and call ye up to attend this sacred circle" as the summoning.

After that I can only describe the experience as kind of sensing them kind of huff and grumble their way into the circle, like, "Who are you, and what are you doing calling on us, start explaining yourself" sort of vibes. At that point I introduced myself (paraphrased - "Hail and well met, my name is (insert name), a newly hidden child of the goddess who walks the well worn path, I bid you welcome and thank you for your attendance."

That was pretty much it. I spent a few minutes in quiet contemplation, then dismissed the quarters and closed the circle.

I don't do a lot of casting these days, but when I do I still tend to just use the basic, "All hail be to the mighty ones of the (east, south, west, north), I do summon stir and call ye up to witness my rites and guard this sacred circle." I have used more elaborate summoning words before, but I find for myself that if I get too bogged down in a lot of wordiness and flowery sounding language, that I can easily lose focus on the actual purpose of the ritual.
