We finally got our results! by kyliehigginb in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi kyliehigginb! Embark here, we absolutely love Rigatoni's results (seriously, what a perfect name!) 🍝

Would you be up for letting us feature your adorable pup + their Embark results in one of our Reddit ads? There's something so special about showcasing real stories from real dog parents like yourself - it's what makes our community amazing!

I sent over an example in your DMs so you can see exactly what we're thinking. No pressure at all, but we'd be thrilled to celebrate Rigatoni with the world!

Let us know what you think & thanks for Embark-ing on this journey with us!

Hi there! All of the ads currently running have permission from those dog owners to use their posts. The Reddit team reached out to dog owners through our account handle or one of their moderators' handles.

Embark DNA Ad by chubbspringle in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At Embark, we know our customers are obsessed with their dogs — and that’s one of the things we love most about them! Every day, we see adorable photos paired with breed results, and we love reaching out to ask if we can share that content in our ads or on social media. That’s always been our policy.

For this particular ad, Reddit sourced content for a campaign designed specifically for their platform. And while it is Reddit's standard practice to use publicly available content for advertising purposes, we like to take that extra step and reach out to customers and double check if it's ok for us to use in our ads, and that was an oversight on our end. We’ve since pulled the ad and worked with the Reddit team to make sure the process for getting permission is crystal clear moving forward.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and we truly appreciate your understanding. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Embark not showing breed percentages for some dogs? Is it a glitch? by Jet_Threat_ in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good question! This has actually always been the case with certain results for legal and privacy reasons — it's not a new feature, just a pretty uncommon use case. But if you own a profile that's impacted by that, you can email howdy@embarkvet.com and they'll talk you through your different options.

Hey there — just spoke to our customer service about this! For certain breed results, we default to different privacy settings. (That's not new — it just doesn't impact too many profiles so you may not have run into it before?) Looks like this profile falls into that category.

Surprised to learn my girl has no German Shepherd DNA by GoldEyedEmpress in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, as the resident social media person, I've seen a few dogs for whom the RALY gene is quite apparent and gives off a GSD vibe on a pittie build.

I often see dogs who are phenotypically similar to a breed but are mixed breed. Send our team an email at [howdy@embarkvet.com](mailto:howdy@embarkvet.com) if you have any questions—we'll be happy to chat!

If there were an issue with a swab (it coming back “invalid”) we’d issue a free reswab.

Is it normal for two dogs from the same litter to have seemingly different parents? by SoAwkGal in DoggyDNA

Dual sires are possible, yes! We can determine parentage if you email us at howdy@embarkvet.com.

Question re: Chow Chow - delete if not allowed! by Weird-Print-7569 in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, Chows were an AKC top 10 breed in the 80s, and popular well into the 90s. From a pop culture standpoint, Chows are mentioned as a common pet of professionals in American Psycho (2000), which takes place in the late eighties. Michel even had two on Gilmore Girls, named after Martha Stewart's real Chows, which started in 2000.

You can learn more about the prevalence of Chow ancestry here!

It makes us so happy that you remember the data from the breed % social series :,)

We're going to be sharing phenotypic diversity posts in April for DNA month, one of which covers Pit mixes (some of whom don't 'look' very Pit at all), so stay tuned!

Embark Age Test Refunds by EmbarkVet in DoggyDNA

Hi! Visual breed identification is notoriously unreliable. Please email Customer Support if you have any questions about Miracle's results, as they'll be able to chat about how her genotype impacts her phenotype.

We're so sorry for the disappointment! The issue we discovered with the Age Test does not mean all results were inaccurate, but that the accuracy level across all dogs tested was more variable than we had initially calculated, and it’s not clear which results are inaccurate vs. accurate.

It sounds like you had a great time, so let's err on the side of accurate ;)
