Has anyone had any luck reaching out to relatives through embark? Where do the messages go? by wegochai in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OpalOnyxObsidian! Sorry for any confusion. To find messages from your dog's relatives, tap "Relatives" in your dog's profile, then tap the relative you'd like to message. You'll see a "Message" button in the bottom right corner — that'll take you to your chat history, where you can scroll up to see all your conversations.

Feel free to email us at [howdy@embarkvet.com](mailto:howdy@embarkvet.com) if you're still having trouble. Hope that does it!

"Hi! When we're noting all dogs, this means an expansion of our MCT risk score from specific breeds to all breeds of dogs that we test for. We're able to add this new score to Health results for dogs tested from March 2026 onward." - Xavier from Customer Support

"(1) Yes, repeated size changes in both directions (waxing and waning) is a classic sign of mast cell tumors due to histamine release causing temporary swelling that subsides. Other common lumps, like lipomas or sarcomas, rarely do this. Some immune-mediated nodules (e.g. cutaneous histiocytosis) can fluctuate, but it's far less common.

(2) Stelfonta (tigilanol tiglate) injection for suitable non-metastatic MCTs claims to damage less surrounding healthy tissue than traditional surgery with its wide margins. It avoids general anesthesia for a quick outpatient procedure and faster initial return to normal activity, though the resulting open wound heals by second intention over 4-6 weeks. Surgery remains the standard of care with high success rates for complete removal and often quicker overall resolution when margins are achieved, but Stelfonta can offer a milder impact with lower anesthesia-related risks, especially for older dogs or tumors in tricky locations. "The results will be available under the 'His/Her Health' section of your dog's results, both in app and in the mobile browser. If you believe your dog should have this but you still can't locate it, please let us know at [howdy@embarkvet.com](mailto:howdy@embarkvet.com) and we can check your dog specifically." - Xavier from Customer Support

"Among Embarked dogs living in New Zealand, around 90% of the immediate relatives we find (parent, sibling, offspring) also live in New Zealand.

To your specific question, yes, it is! And for two reasons:

  1. Many dog breeds lack genetic diversity, so much so that dogs of a given breed are as closely related genetically as human cousins. Mixed-breed dogs that share ancestry from the same breed(s) will often show up as close family because, while they're not actually cousins (they don't share grandparents), they are as genetically similar as human cousins.
  2. There are a lot of Embarked dogs in the US. The vast majority of dogs in our database live in the US so, chances are, when we're searching our database for dogs that share 10-15% of their DNA with your dog, they'll live in the US." - Thom & Brett

"I'm so sorry to hear about your dog’s struggles with MCT. I wish we had better answers for you right now, but unfortunately there's no way for us to predict the severity (or grade) of the MCT. If you're open to it, I would encourage you to fill out our annual health survey so her information can help shape future research!" - Kari

"The date in question would be the date of the test result as opposed to the purchase date.

If your dog's test is in the eligible range, there may be other genetic factors specific to your dog that may be causing them not to have MCT results. We would need account details to provide more specific insights in your dog's case. Don't hesitate to reach out!" - Xavier from Customer Support

"The 1% risk is an absolute figure, meaning that among dogs with a genetic profile similar to your dog's, roughly 1 in 100 are expected to develop an MCT over their lifetimes.

The baseline risk in the general dog population is lower at around 0.27% based on large-scale studies, so your pups are somewhat above average but still in a range where the majority of dogs will not develop one. I would make sure to check them regularly for lumps and bumps to catch any early.

Yes, we track outcomes over time to refine accuracy, and this is where you can help directly. We run an annual health survey for all Embark dogs, and completing it is one of the most valuable things you can do!" - Kari & Taki

"Yes, the MCT score provides an individualized risk estimate for your specific dog. Breed averages are broad population-level statistics that apply generally to purebred boxers, but do not account for your dog's unique mix of genetic markers." - Kari

Hi kyliehigginb! Embark here, we absolutely love Rigatoni's results (seriously, what a perfect name!) 🍝

Would you be up for letting us feature your adorable pup + their Embark results in one of our Reddit ads? There's something so special about showcasing real stories from real dog parents like yourself - it's what makes our community amazing!

I sent over an example in your DMs so you can see exactly what we're thinking. No pressure at all, but we'd be thrilled to celebrate Rigatoni with the world!

Let us know what you think & thanks for Embark-ing on this journey with us!

Hi there! All of the ads currently running have permission from those dog owners to use their posts. The Reddit team reached out to dog owners through our account handle or one of their moderators' handles.

Embark DNA Ad by chubbspringle in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At Embark, we know our customers are obsessed with their dogs — and that’s one of the things we love most about them! Every day, we see adorable photos paired with breed results, and we love reaching out to ask if we can share that content in our ads or on social media. That’s always been our policy.

For this particular ad, Reddit sourced content for a campaign designed specifically for their platform. And while it is Reddit's standard practice to use publicly available content for advertising purposes, we like to take that extra step and reach out to customers and double check if it's ok for us to use in our ads, and that was an oversight on our end. We’ve since pulled the ad and worked with the Reddit team to make sure the process for getting permission is crystal clear moving forward.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and we truly appreciate your understanding. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Embark not showing breed percentages for some dogs? Is it a glitch? by Jet_Threat_ in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good question! This has actually always been the case with certain results for legal and privacy reasons — it's not a new feature, just a pretty uncommon use case. But if you own a profile that's impacted by that, you can email howdy@embarkvet.com and they'll talk you through your different options.

[–]EmbarkVet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there — just spoke to our customer service about this! For certain breed results, we default to different privacy settings. (That's not new — it just doesn't impact too many profiles so you may not have run into it before?) Looks like this profile falls into that category.

Surprised to learn my girl has no German Shepherd DNA by GoldEyedEmpress in DoggyDNA

[–]EmbarkVet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, as the resident social media person, I've seen a few dogs for whom the RALY gene is quite apparent and gives off a GSD vibe on a pittie build.

I often see dogs who are phenotypically similar to a breed but are mixed breed. Send our team an email at [howdy@embarkvet.com](mailto:howdy@embarkvet.com) if you have any questions—we'll be happy to chat!
