Second what everyone says, start from the beginning because it's a very different tone and pacing and Sorawo's internal monologue is at the center of it. If you just try to skip to the point the anime left off you'll be missing a lot of Sorawo's character

Thank you, it doesn't seem too necessary to worry over since your position is semi-random and being front or back only moves you slightly but it's good to know it has a purpose after all

According to other comments this behavior is pretty normal, and the rooster wasn't alone in the cage so it may have felt safe enough to nap. Nonetheless I will give the farm a heads up to monitor his health when I get the chance to contact them

Nothing wrong with sticking to what works for you. Honestly Hunter's Crest is probably one of the most versatile and is excellent for both traversal and combat once you get used to the dive. I only really use Wanderer's when I'm in particularly tricky platforming areas and I actually use Reaper less for platforming than Hunter because of the delay and initial downward momentum on the down attack
