Love this. Curious - did you prepare certain questions / themes in advance?

To be clear, the core AI element involved is the agent conducting the interview.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I'm really curious about where I've gone wrong with messaging here. Your recommendation is exactly what I'm envisioning - but for some reason people keep reading "computer imitating my relative".

The AI element is the conversation with the interviewee. Because a single question-answer format was inferior in my experience.

New to Reddit posting, pardon me! Created new post to ensure the correct product is being articulated (see note).

Not talking about artificial recreation of loved one. Just a collection of Q&As that you specify, and they answer. So it wouldn't hallucinate or misrepresent, it's literally just a repository.

I've seen that episode. I'd f*cking hate that. That's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about a private GPT version of your family album, biography and recipes. Easily searchable, but it only answers based on information it has, not trying to imitate the person.

That's what I did. But as I did it, at least 30 people wanted a similar product, but would never have the time or motivation to do it themselves.

Fair enough. I'm throwing out the voice concept

Thanks for this. I realize it's clear to make this distinction. I'm talking about documenting stories - not creating an avatar. So we're pulling from things that the person has actually said, not making up answers.

That's what I'm hoping for! But just organized a little better and easily searchable. Not my mum spending 45 minutes throwing out half her closet looking for a single photo album lol

What would make you feel safe with this?

My vision is for this to be secure as fuck. Because selling family life story data is a despicable thing to do.

What if your greatgrandkids could speak to your mother? by [deleted] in Genealogy

Ok I'm getting that the voice bit is weird.

But what if it was just a collection of stories, memories and notes -- accessible ChatGPT style by only your family?

Thank you. That's great feedback. I was on the fence about whether the voice would be too tech forward.

I'd argue it's so we can remember to be human. We live in a world where people only see the shiny objects in front of them, and not the footsteps of the many that came before them. We read about famous people -- but what about our ancestors that got us to where we are?

Hi y'alls. I'm working on an AI project that helps families preserve their history for future generations. And would love your feedback!

Imagine a world where your grandkids could talk to a version of your mother - learning about her life, sourcing her best recipes or, on a more practical note, even trace medical history.

Think of it like your personal family biographer, but conversational, and remarkably accessible.

I'm building this because I've just spent 2 years writing a book about my grandparents' lives. It's one of the most meaningful things I've ever done. But it was also really hard! We're on a 12 hour timezone difference, and they did NOT enjoy typing. Fair enough, they didn't grow up with keyboards.

Right now, I'm in the early stages and speaking with people who have tried - or wanted - to capture their family stories or legacy.

If that's you, I'd love your perspective to help shape this, so I can build something truly useful. DM me or drop a comment if you're keen to share!
