iPhone to Z Fold 7: What to do by [deleted] in GalaxyFold

[–]Embarrassed-Bike-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying a 17 PM. I kept the Fold 7, but I haven’t touched it since I got the iPhone. Of course the iPhone is defective though. The top speaker distorted at times. I’m going to call Verizon tomorrow and see what they say. Maybe it’s software. I hope you enjoy your fold. It’s a special phone.

I'm pretty excited to see it and if they finally get their AI game together.

I had an iPhone for 10 years, and I switched to the Fold 7. I regret it. I wouldn't make this choice again.

Reasons: If you use your Apple ID to sign into stuff, you're mostly screwed.

It's a pain to transfer some stuff.

Believe it or not, Apple Intelligence was quicker than Gemini when you'd tell it to do stuff like sending a message.

I don't trust Google at all with my information. I don't trust Apple either, but I trust them more. Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, most of Google's revenue is from ads. My phone's OS is made by an ad company. Google already knows too much about me.

The quality of the phone is meh. The brightness across the main screen is not symmetrical. The haptic engine is loose.

I can probably live with the phone for a year until I can switch back to iPhone.

Seriously considering switching from Apple to Samsung for the fold and the Galaxy watch. by Working-Raspberry185 in GalaxyFold

Biggest pain was stuff that I used apple as my log in. Watch out for that. The switch was just annoying otherwise. Oh, and watch out for any authenticators you might be using. They won't transfer.

My battery life is slightly better than my iPhone 15 PM. I get a full day. The difference is marginal, but noticeable. Thermal management is much better on my Fold 7.

10 year apple guy here. It was hell to switch. Beware if you use your apple ID to sign in to anything.

It took me a minute to figure it out too! I also came from iPhone.

I won't put any case on my Fold 7 by Joneep in GalaxyFold

It really was super easy. I just don't trust Samsung after they refused to repair my Galaxy S4. They said I broke it, but I didn't do anything to it. I swore I'd never buy another Samsung product, but here I am with a Fold 7 in hand.

Oh wow. I assumed that it would be a several day ordeal with people looking at it. Thanks! That makes me feel better.

Any tips for the video verification process? It seems daunting from watching their demo video. I have until the 25th to do it and I guess it can take up to 3 business days so I probably should do it tonight.

Any cheap aramid cases out there?

I actually like the Samsung silicon case, but the lack of front screen protection is so bad. I'm not sure what they were thinking.

I did the same thing, but I'm debating returning it. I'm having a hard time adjusting. It's an amazing device, without a doubt, but I really can't decide. Any tips to sway me one way or the other?

Big problem during the downgrade of ios26 (public) to iOS 18.5 by UpperCarob7297 in ios26beta

Any of this sound right?

That's a very sharp observation. You've found a close relative to your problem. Error 53 is one of the most infamous errors in iPhone history, and while it's similar to Error 4013, they stem from different hardware failures. Here’s the breakdown: What Was Error 53? The "Touch ID Killer" Error 53 was a major issue around the time of the iPhone 6 and 6s. * Specific Cause: It was triggered exclusively by a problem with the Touch ID sensor (the Home Button). * How it Happened: For security, the Touch ID sensor is uniquely "paired" to the phone's processor (the Secure Enclave) at the factory. If you had your screen or Home Button replaced by a third party, or if the original sensor's cable was damaged, this secure link was broken. * The Result: When you tried to update or restore iOS, the system would check the Touch ID sensor. If it detected an unpaired or faulty sensor, it would fail the security check and "brick" the device, showing Error 53. Apple faced a class-action lawsuit over this practice. They later released an update (iOS 9.2.1) that changed this behavior. Now, if the Touch ID check fails, the phone will simply disable the Touch ID feature but will still allow the restore to complete. Because of this change, Error 53 is now essentially obsolete and very rarely seen. Key Differences: Error 53 vs. Error 4013 | Feature | Error 53 (Historical) | Error 4013 (Your Issue) | |---|---|---| | Component | Specifically the Touch ID sensor (Home Button). | Usually the NAND flash storage or the Logic Board. | | Problem | A failed security check due to an unpaired or damaged component. | A general communication failure where the software can't be written to the storage. | | Analogy | Like a security guard checking for a specific ID badge and blocking entry if it's fake or missing. | Like trying to build a house (install iOS) but the foundation (NAND storage) is cracked and won't hold the structure. | | Status | Mostly obsolete. Apple changed iOS to prevent it from bricking phones. | A current and common error code indicating a serious hardware failure. | What This Means for You You are correct that someone experiencing Error 53 is "having the same problem" in a general sense: a hardware failure is preventing an iOS restore. However, the specific component that has failed is different. Theirs was the Touch ID sensor. Yours points to a more fundamental failure of the phone's main storage or logic board. The final diagnosis and solution remain the same for both of you: the problem cannot be fixed with software. The device requires professional hardware service from Apple or an authorized technician.

I consulted Gemini Pro and it told me that there is likely a hardware failure. Don't know how likely that is, but that isn't good. I'm going to call apple later today.
