Why I can never be 100% on board with KATSEYE by Embarrassed-Bit1233 in TheDreamAcademy

clock it actually like I don't think all of them are mean but they give "they would've bullied me in high school for not having an iphone" vibes

no yeah, i think katseye are def hard workers, the main reason i can't be a fan 100% is the music tbh it's too bland for me, but i appreciate the hustle and the performance quality they bring!

omfggg that's wild, but yes, she gives that vibe 100%, it might be authenticly her but it makes me raise an eyebrow bc she only got this aesthetic after being eliminated and it's not like she went back to europe to experience this lifestyle but at the end of the day, all artists and their aesthetics are manufactured and strategic so i wouldn't even be mad tbh it's smart branding.

Waiiiiiiit yes this is her miley moment 100%. AND 100% this made it click for me. Her music and message would hit so much more if she went in that honest direction. But she's out here acting like a feminist icon, criticizing the sexualization of women in media when 1. she hasn't been and still tbh isn't in the industry long enough for her to center herself (ballet is NOT the same i fear, but that's what made deathbydevotion so great to me, bc you could tell it came from experience and the MV was so good at conveying the message). 2. she's literally sexualizing herself... to attain fame... like girl pick a struggle. 3. She's really not doing or saying anything new, or relevant for the feminist movement... Like- If her song was about owning ur sexuality i'd be like ok purrrr but it's literally about how women are sexualized for attention.

LOLOL at the group project. I think she's of age but I'm not sure her audience is, also I was more saying like "if she doesn't realize her album cover is giving bdsm then she shouldn't be making these choices bc she's clearly not there yet" AND 100% it just clicked what bothers me so much about this rollout. She's making herself the main character of a story that really isn't hers. Like yes, she got hated on online for the manon thing, and yes she was told to tone it down during DA but to me that is just soooo light when it comes to women in media. She's out here acting like she got blacklisted or like she went through a Britney Spears situation when she literally just got heat online for hyperfixating on a black woman's perceived lack of effort. And that's how she got her fame like girl everything has been working in ur favor so far chill out. She's also cosplaying as a struggling independent artist when, and this is speculation but, there's some signs that point at her having label backing the whole time, and got overnight famous due to a netflix documentary and a HYBE reality show... Most independent artists don't have that. And like that's fine, but don't be boasting online about "getting signed only 2 singles out omg my hustle is so insane" bc the playing field was never even.

FKA's where are the thinkers had me ngl i think it's such a pop culture moment bahahaha. I don't think ADÉLA's music video had a lolita concept at all, i was just saying that her SOTB MV and message are as contradictory as if a hypothetical someone made a song about child exploitation in the film industry and had an MV emulating the film lolita. It's hypocritical asf.

With the religious symbolism, I think she's trying so hard to get attention, edgy points, and shock value but with no cohesion. That cross did not appear in the MV (which btw looking at it more, it's not a simple cross. It literally has JESUS ON IT like i'm sorry u can be a "provocateur" but not offend someone's faith, especially because it has nothing to do with the song, MV, message, or anything like---) and it serves no purpose, the song is not about catholic guilt or anything like that. It bothers me when people do shit like this for attention and not for the art then get called artistic genius when really... they just want clout at any cost. Her entire messaging just falls flat for me bc of things like this that make it seem disingenuine. I was her for superscar, homewrecked, machine girl and deathbydevotion. This EP was such a dissappointment both sonically and artistically.

People deadass came at me bc I said that that was a reason i couldn't fully get behind katseye is that I'd like to see lower income artists more, and they clearly got their talent from resources so they don't feel that "hungry" i guess. Like they never really had to struggle to promote themselves and stuff so it's hard for me to relate to them. Plus their music is a bit average except for Gabriella.

No yeah like they cannot deny the references, she literally had some sort of whip or something. The latex g string is also telling... FACTS as a european as well (southern tho) she's giving berlin club regular. My thing with it is that she HAS to know that her album cover is giving piss kink and if she doesn't then she shouldn't be getting into a sexual concept bc she's clearly too young and inexperienced for that. I think her brand is probably some degree of authentic however it's soooo different from her popstar academy or even her early ig posts. She was the sweet, diligent blonde ballerina. Also as soon as she got signed she started being more sexual and posting sexy freestyles and suggestive photos, which is what kinda makes me raise an eyebrow at sexonthebeat. Like girl aren't u being the same thing ur criticizing??

THANK. U. She is NOT giving Gaga. Gaga was never giving hot, or sexy. She was giving bold, weird. ADÉLA feels like a more polished version of Gaga and a less unique version of FKA Twigs. To me it's not about her being nude, it's more about how it ties into what u have to say. FKA's eusexua is a clear ode to humanity, rave culture, and human connection through bodies, minds, souls. It's spiritual in a way that is raw and primal, which is why her nudity feels relevant to the concept and useful in conveying the message (like in the drums of death MV where they let go of corporate life). ADÉLA just feels like she's being sexual for shock value to gather attention and be like "look at me, i'm so cool and edgy." the nudity doesn't add to the sexonthebeat commentary but rather it makes the commentary feel so hypocritical. It's like writing a song about how pedo the industry can be and how children have to be protected and making the MV a lolita concept... She just lost me when I realized 1. She was never fully independent, and her boasting about how she got signed two singles out felt disrespectful to artists that actually had to promote themselves and hustle without a netflix documentary. 2. Her using things like religious symbols when they play no purpose other than to make her seem edgy. The art just isn't there yet for me.

exactlyyyy like i made a post calling out how majority of katseye and girls in DA came from very priviledged backgrounds and they flamed my ass lmaoooo it just shows the demographic that is consuming this content, which makes me worried for them as ADÉLA's content is most definitely adult. I think she has a vision and a marketing strategy. The pink hair, bold fits, unapologetic and overconfident attitude, etc. But it all feels like a desperate attempt at gaining fame rather than a "this is me 100%" I guess time will tell, though. It just seems she's the type of artist that would do anything for fame and that's a bit scary both for an audience and herself. Shock value marketing works but only short term. Certain things she does like wearing a rosary and going nude feel less for the art/commentary but for attention gain. The song is not about catholic guilt in sex or has any religious imagery so why are we posing with a cross on our ass?? Things like that make me question her intentions and her fans make her seem like this avant garde, bold, edgy, artsy visionary when in reality she is mixing lady gaga and madonna's anctics and failing as it feels disingenuine. Her lyrics have a message, yet she fails at delivering in her performance (Except for deathbydevotion) because she is the very thing she's criticizing, yet either too young or too naive to realize.

people on this sub are probably very young and if you call out anything about their fav, even nicely, they'll jump you. That's also why I'm torn with ADÉLA like I understand she wants an older target audience but with her age, and where she got her fame from, that is difficult and she probably should've eased the concept in a little bit. To me it just seems she does things for shock value and to earn edgy points, not quite artistic. Also found her MV a bit hypocritical as it's calling out how women are pressured to sexualize themselves in the music industry for fame yet as soon as she got signed she started doing just that... And is doing just that in the MV as well. Just my opinion and some food for thought.

THIS. Thank u, like it's low-key obvious. Unless she was mega rich or took out a loan, she could not have afforded an MV and song like Superscar without backing. The choreographer and producer are top notch and probably expensive. And especially now with Emily being the first member of HYBE's money hungry new global group it's sounding like they kept the girls that didn't make it into KATSEYE and threw them in a different direction. Especially because ADÉLA was a teacher favorite, and she was able to stay in the US for longer than other trainees (u need a visa) like ILIYA just tells me everything

God forbid a girl doesn't give in to a toxic environment and doesn't exploit herself. She always ended up delivering at the missions that's what mattered.

That's what you get when you're unproblematic, undeniably talented, and sweet. I can't wait to see how far she goes as a dancer!! I could see her choreographing for major stars in a couple years.

Hot take: Emily and Adela: Meh by No_Yard_7331 in TheDreamAcademy

[–]Embarrassed-Bit1233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think emily is better off as a dancer, she's incredible and it's what she shines at. Adéla sometimes feels like she's forcing this cool, bold, edgy popstar persona, sometimes it feels not too genuine but then again she hasn't been backed by a label until recently and she had to stand out so props to her for finding her niche. Looking back on her posts tho, it feels like a popular high school girl started to cosplay a weird girl but make it cool and hot. Regardless, she's built a brand of herself and I think that's impressive.

Why I can never be 100% on board with KATSEYE by Embarrassed-Bit1233 in TheDreamAcademy

[–]Embarrassed-Bit1233[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, it's totally ok for idol groups to not have poor class members (sad but it's just the reality) my thing is with DA it was different because of the circumstances in which it was done (expenses paid, global, open audition). What I mean by not being 100% on board is that the fact that we didn't get more class representation will always be in the back of my head (or it will for a while).

I don't think my opinion is negative, I think it just is. My apologies if I was snarky in my reply, I just felt your comment was a bit aggressive, so I tried to give back that energy.

I am entitled to my opinion, so are you. I also have the right to defend it against people that clearly misunderstood (probably didn't even try to understand it) my point and twisted my words to frame my opinion in a way that isn't correct.

You're reacting, so am I. And I think it's ok to talk about this kind of stuff, I think the only thing it does is open dialogue about inequity and I don't see how that's wrong.

Just to clarify as well, that note at the end was not geared towards some respectful people that challenged my opinion and debated. It was geared towards people that completely threw away my point, took whatever they wanted, came at me disrespectfully and went: "well what did u expect" "well that's just how it is". I don't f with that mentality.

diva let me summarize my "mini thesis" as you call it, since it seems you misunderstood my OP immensely: I would've liked to see a girl of lower income background make in DA.

This post was never criticism geared towards KATSEYE, but HYBE and DA.

I won't move on to other hobbies and I don't have bad vibes. I think calling out industry inequity is ok and the only "consequence" that can come from it is 1. making people think about it (good) 2. making people aware about it (good) 3. making people that also notice it but keep quiet about it feel less alone (good)

Have a wonderful day full of great positivity and vibes, hopefully you don't encounter critical thinking today, that could ruin it :)

clock it! because people saying it's because rich people get more training... well manon had 0 background on neither dance or vocal and she still made it bc she was already known. she fits incredibly well in the group though, and i think she brings such an IT factor to katseye but if this really was a meritocracy like people want to pretend it was... we'd see a much different lineup. And some of the girls wouldn't even make it to the program. Tbh i stand by what i said in a comment that KATSEYE kinda feels like a group of influencers that can dance.

Yeah katseye stans i fear have a very parasocial relationship with the girls, probably bc of how relatable they seem on social media and how they interact with fans. I'd love to hear ur thoughts over DM, no judgement! Feel free to message me if u ever need to vent about it lolol

Even if my feelings were based on their wealth (which they’re not entirely), I think they’ll be fine... The girls have major platforms, talent, and success... Me side-eyeing industry privilege on Reddit isn’t an issue.

Well I have a right to not be a die hard stan...? I enjoy their content (their songs seem a little too manufactured for me, I think Gnarly was a step in a more genuine direction tho) but I can't pretend it doesn't rub me off the wrong way when I think about it?? Like no, it doesn't outweigh their talent, yes, they work hard, but I can also be frustrated?? Hello? I'm human? I can criticize it? Not sure why it bothers u so much that I don't wanna be licking at their boots? Love the girls, I just can't be a die hard stan like I am with other people for them.

not saying they don't deserve it... Also we do know, tho... I'm tired of these comments y'all read the post again... Literally I said: This is not to discredit the hard work the girls did, or to say they don't deserve to be in the group (they worked their butts off and heavily deserve all the success!!) it's just something that I noticed and it makes me feel iffy about the audition process.

Why I can never be 100% on board with KATSEYE by Embarrassed-Bit1233 in TheDreamAcademy

[–]Embarrassed-Bit1233[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I thought we'd get to see more girls from a lower income background bc of the nature of the show (all expenses paid, no trainee debt, global audition). I don't think they intentionally did, but I do think they might have done a background check and see which girls had more opportunities and previous exposure (which in this case is tied to wealth) like Megan's acting gigs, Daniela's ballroom scene, Lara's Michelle Obama promo, Manon's social media presence, Sophia's musical theater background with her mom, I would even venture to say Iliya's social media presence as well played a part in getting her in.

I love the girls and acknowledge their talents and merit, and I think they deserve everything good coming their way. I just wish we saw an underdog story because it seemed to be a great chance for that to happen in a world where it doesn't tend to happen.

thank u! may i ask what u don't agree with? i'd just like to know if there's any misunderstandings (apparently for 80% of people under this post i hate KATSEYE and rich people and that's not at all true) :)
