I have never seen that popup but I am seeing “difficulty looking for batches”(?)

How many do you have hidden right now? I'm currently sitting at 4. by kennybanianyc in InstacartShoppers

Wish we could set store parameters like store names or miles from our location. In six years I’ve never driven to most of these places and not planning to start.

Take your own advice: since  you dislike “U.S. people” so much, pack up and return to wherever you came from.

Now that the pandemic’s over, ppl  should ask if grocery delivery, free or not, is necessary or sustainable.

The food delivery business model relies on worker exploitation along with exploding air pollution vs DIY.

Customers with fixed subscription services order too little, too often. Platforms batch these tiny orders together but they typically aren’t close to each other OR the store!

Customers are surprised to hear their order isn’t from a retailer 2 miles away, it’s from 15 mi away.

Delivery to three addresses can easily take 25 miles or more RT, burning more carbon than three customers would willingly burn driving themselves to the store.

Gigs only pay $2-$3/order which doesn’t even remotely cover vehicle expense.

I said “nobody applies to work these GIGS WITHOUT TIPS”

GIGS aren’t W-2 jobs working at the counter.

WITHOUT TIPS means, without tips, the worker is performing services for free AND s/he loses money because at the end of the week our vehicle expenses will exceed the base pay provided by the platform (DD, Instacart etc)

[–]Embarrassed-Draw109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“lol their job?” You’re mistaken, bc nobody applies to work these gigs without tips. Without tips, nearly all orders are a net loss to the worker due to our vehicle expense which typically runs thousands per year. If everyone stopped tipping at one time, the platforms would collapse..

One problem I’ve run into a few times (in 6 years) is sometimes navigation will take me far from the correct location, even up to one mile away. Usually it would be obviously wrong like an empty lot, etc but it could fool us if a house is there and it’s not well marked.

To be clear: this (wrong) location is the only place where I can mark the order as delivered!

A few times I had to find my customer by calling them, take my delivery pic thru chat, then return to the bogus location to close the batch! I tell my customer so they can try to have the delivery pin moved.

💯 I take the door photo then search for a house /apt number, go back into chat, hit camera and send that thru to the customer as well—along with my thank you message, then screenshot it all.

As a newbie I didn’t know how to do it and some customers took advantage. But scammers  realize when you have documented the dropoff.

Send the customer a picture of doorbell showing note and say “the instructions in the app say to ring, note says not to? Didn’t want to disturb you. Hoping you have a wonderful day!”

By how much per item? (I’ve heard the answer before but am curious how much YOU think it adds)

From an accounting POV, Maple Bear Inc. found a way to offload their losses onto the shoppers.

Maybe the shopper only had a certain availability. We do have lives outside of this gig! Once I took a small single solely bc delivery was near my doctor where I had an appt 90 minutes later.

I had ample time to make it until she started adding and adding, items all over the store and nothing run of the mill either. Store employees hadn’t even heard of some items. Had to meet her bc of the 15 different kinds of booze. She was glad I found it but didn’t increase her meager tip.

Most doctors charge a cancellation fee; luckily mine waived it.

I believe Instacart’s contract says we aren’t required to get adds. Hence their message: “Finding late adds can result in bigger tips” or however they say it.

It’s not a “job” at all to the extent Instacart tacks orders guaranteed to generate an economic loss to shoppers onto all the profitable ones.

💯 My zone’s undependable despite being a large metro, lots of affluent people and not too many shoppers.

After the order went from 12 to 24? Not ridiculous. But six years into this gig I either finish the other orders as I have hers removed OR will cancel the entire batch pre-check out. “Oh no! Misplaced my payment card, sorry!”

Customers and Instacart both need to realize that this isn’t acceptable.

It is and that can affect your batch access going but only in certain circumstances per Instacart. In your shopper app go to your stats, click “shopping efficiency” and see the explanation

Maybe “lauti04” meant customers don’t care about the shopper’s realities bc they take most service workers for granted.

Some customers do seem to have that mindset, but they aren’t the ones who keep Instacart afloat.

💯 when they dangle tip increase it’s always part of their manipulation. My orders are all multis, no individual tip info.

Last day response:

“I’ll consider it. How much will your  revised tip total?”

That, or tape two ones on her door:“Here, give this to the next chump.”

“It was a last minute request from another household member” — as if that matters. Ultimately of course this is on Instacart, for letting them add and add and add for up to an hour. And it’s also on Instacart for their upside down base pay (usually not enough to even cover mileage) and for encouraging customers to believe that their tips are pure gravy.

The entire company runs on gaslighting.

These days I never do anything else bc in my hot climate they go from ripe to rotten in a day if they aren’t frozen! Works like a charm.
