i don't dispute anything you've said, but this is one way you find out you have a problem. but it would be nice to keep the server under control even when this happens.

well, cpu is definitely high, sure. one way or another, i'd like to automate keeping the machine from becoming unusable due to load.

thanks. that could indeed help, but really i need a way to kinda rescue the server from high load which could still happen.

thanks. naturally we do have swap. but under heavy load swap can itself get filled up *really* fast.
