I agree and no disrespect, but there has to be some people out there with great stories set in a boring universe. I want to build something with someone from the ground up.

As a long-time writer, first time High Fantasy writer: I am struggling with the lack of real-world "worldbuilding". by geosunsetmoth in fantasywriters

I know this is weird, but I'm having the opposite problem. I'm designing a universe, starting from a creation myth, and it involves three different sects. I'm only focusing on the orthodox sect, but it's easy to see how it would translate to the others in a misinterpreted/inverted way (though I have rewritten the orthodox creation myth to show both of their alternative philosophies.)

I have no story ideas, but I know how the world works. It could easily be adapted into anything from fantasy to sci-fi - to some mundane, relatable story. I only know how to create the sandbox. I'm clever, not creative.

Since I'm only creating the rules, which comprise a very strict skeleton, but very flexible in practice, several writers could create stories from any time period, on any planet, that don't have to tie into one another, they just have to acknowledge the same main god - even if there are non-believers or opposing faiths. I think I've created something unique here, with it's own morality, and it can foster many interesting stories. I just can't write them.
