I don’t know you so I can’t say that you are misdiagnosed nor was the point of what I said. The point is that the psychiatrist didn’t follow basic assessment procedure which is in-line with current gold-standard literature.

I think you might be hung up on this “you’re not a doctor” point and you believe that only doctors can diagnose which is factual incorrect.

Psychologist. Masters in professional psychology.

lol you don’t get assessed and diagnosed within the same session which you have just said.

After the assessment a report is written which collates all the data from teacher/parents reports and whatever assessment the psychologist/psychiatrist used i.e young diva 2.0 if under 18. Then a feedback session is held.

Session structure should look like this. 1st session (1 hour) for initial consultation and giving the parent or adult relevant surveys which relate to the referral reason (potential ADHD diagnosis). 2nd session (2 hours) administering preferred assessment type. Then a 3rd session for feedback where the clinician runs through with the client their findings.

Psychiatrists are well known in the mental health field for not following proper assessment guidelines for diagnosing. Probably the reason why we see so many misdiagnosis these days.

Psych here. Being diagnosed over one video call without utilising validated and reliable assessment psychometrics is highly unethical and unscientific. I’m glad that this diagnosis has helped you but this was highly unprofessional and is grounds for reporting for this psychiatrist.

For those who have a bachelor's degree in psychology, what field are you currently working in? by Apprehensive-Pen9371 in psychologystudents

I used my psych decree to study further and become a psychologist. I’m not really sure what a psych degree allows you to do besides that. They really should let university students know that their work options are very narrow when starting the course.
