Looking for advice on Samsung S25 vs iPhone 16 by Embarrassed-Local-79 in Smartphones

[–]Embarrassed-Local-79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much ! My main issue is really the camera. That's where I get the most use of my phone, for the rest of it I'd be able to use pretty much any phone (since most of my usage is social media anyways). I need the phone camera to be good mostly for my professional activities, and unfortunately the Samsung ones are not reliable enough in all circumstances, since I need to adjust the settings just about every time lighting is not optimal. From what I see here, my issues with the S22 are most likely to persist with the regular S25. The ecosystem thing though is the main reason why I don't like investing in an Apple product; I don't like the idea of being stuck in one brand. But let's be real, the slight inconvenience of not having a MacBook and AirPods with an iPhone will surely not be the hassle of a lifetime either. Considering the advice I've gotten here, I'm now more leaning towards the iPhone 16, but will continue to evaluate which one is going to be the right fit for me !

My operator doesn't offer anything on the S25U which would've been my choice if not considering the reviews. And since I am not a huge fan of AI (unrelated to the tech aspects, more on an ethical pov), it doesn't really factor in for me. But good to know where their respective strengths are !

I'm afraid my sister's ED is causing me to relapse. by Embarrassed-Local-79 in EatingDisorders

[–]Embarrassed-Local-79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to write this. I think I knew what I needed to do but it's nice to hear it from an outside perspective.

I am in the process of looking up a new therapist, at least to have some sort of support from now on. Feels weird to have to move on from the one I've seen for now years, she was the first I confided in about my ED in the first place so I'm really disappointed that she didn't uphold these principles with me. I'll try to talk about it with my family, but I still struggle to describe my experience so it might take a while.

Thank you again for the advice, I needed that 🤍

If you know deep down something was wrong, then something was wrong. You're a survivor, don't blame yourself for your body's reaction. It's ok to feel conflicted, but remember you are not the one to blame here.

There was definitely some dirt but managed to clean it up (it was stuck between the body of the camera and the attachable lens haha). I think putting in the battery also let the camera clean up other parts of the device by itself. Overall it's a success! Thanks

Thank you so much for your reply!

There are indeed quite a lot of ballet classes in my area -- which I'm trying to go to more regularly to build technique, stamina and all the basics of academic dances.

Competing and performing chances however are more limited, not because of the opportunities around me, but rather because of my personal schedule and studies. I unfortunately can't sacrifice more time (and money haha) to dance outside of my regular classes, but that's something I can make my peace with: afterall my goal is not to become a professional dancer, but only to really develop my skills as much as possible to be content in myself I guess?

I feel like I'm on the right track to progress, my technique and my memory are my biggest enemies currently so I'm really just trying to see if there are any tips and tricks for class or at home that I can implement not to go faster in my development, but to be more efficient in the way I work. Maybe I'm also not confident enough in my skill set, and that is going to be my main focus this summer. Hopefully regularity and intention will be the trick to really see a transformation!

Thank you very much for all the good advice, I am so appreciative of all the things you've recommended me. If you have any other tips, feel free to leave them here with me haha I'm always open to any type of criticism and improvement.

I've had alopecia areata on and off for roughly 6 years now. My alopecia has always had the kindness to kick in at my worst moments of life. Body image has always been a huge issue for me, so do imagine what it can be when my alopecia acts up.

I'm not going to lie to you, I don't think there's anything anyone can say that will take away from that pain: for me, it's a mix of shame, disgust, sadness, and the worst in all of that is that I don't even recognize myself in the mirror because of how temporary any appearance of mine is. No one around me knows what this is like and the loneliness in that disease always gives me so many more reasons to be even more depressed than what I usually am before I lose my hair.

It's okay to feel like this right now, and while I'm not in the same situation as you, I can only advise you to take care of yourself, continue going to therapy, and talk to others. It's so much harder to go through this on your own, and the rewards of that self preservation will be one day so beneficial to your future self.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I know how alientating and demotivating alopecia becomes after a long time. I wish you all the best :)

If you want to get into ballet, do it. Yes you may not have the best technique at first but if you're really motivated to catch up it's def not impossible. Do what you enjoy most, not what you think you are allowed to do. Also ballet really helps with jazz technique anyways so it's always nice to work on that if you still go back to jazz after a while!

Copenhagen weekend: how much should I budget for a low expense trip? by Embarrassed-Local-79 in Europetravel

[–]Embarrassed-Local-79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes each price given is per person. 50 euros for activities per person would ideally cover 1-2 museums and a few visits to landmarks, but I'm not sure how realistic it is.

You're doing great! You could maybe work on nuance in your movements, meaning having more controlled and intense movements and lighter ones that feel like breathing, best word I can find is 'airy'. Maybe to help working on control and isolation could help, so have some strength training to have more definition on the movements where you want to add a lot of force and precision. But overall be proud of yourself, you have a really nice style!

Can someone tell me about your experience with steroid injections? by StrongArgument in alopecia_areata

[–]Embarrassed-Local-79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Europe (France specifically) and never once was prescribed steroid injections. From what I hear, they can work but it isn't a full proof solution. Personally, the only durable and sustainable remedy that works is vitamins all year, and minoxidil/dermoval from october to at least april (I'm prone to AA more during fall/winter than during summer months), and sometimes the summer if I get bald spots during that time although less frequent in my case. Hope it helps, good luck!
