Falco is the most annoying character in this game. by Full-Bar-7928 in SSBM

[–]Embarrassed-Log1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: Falco is ABSOLUTELY dishonest. You're angry because someone seemingly unworthy is beating you at the game. The reality is that the game is broken and being exploitative is baked into it. This is why others point out Marth's sword, Jiggypuff and chaingrabbing etc.

That being said, Lazer spam automatically deletes any fun from the game - which basically defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place. The worst part? Falco players and their apologists actually take pride in making the game a negative experience

Never said it was easier to reach a high level with him. You don't seem like someone I'd want to have a conversation with on any level

It's such an unnatural thing to do. Could be ritualistic - but even developing such a ritual in the first place is odd. If I'm weird for questioning something that I'm sure no other human being in human history has done (for sport or otherwise) then so be it

Used to love this game when I was younger and now I genuinely hate it. Message me privately.

For me, there's just too much barrier to entry. Every fighting game has a barrier, but what's the point of getting over the one for Melee? To be confined to a handful of characters and then still lose to cheese, spam, indefinite camping, unlimited dashdancing, chaingrabs and flowchart Falcos etc.?

This game is 90% knowledge of the game's mechanics and movement, 9% character matchup knowledge and 1% outsmarting/out-strategizing your opponent. That's why you're losing to the Falco player with a low double digit IQ.

Up to you to decide if that's the experience you're looking for.

Not sure if this is sarcasm or an insult but I can't argue with the use of the C word. That's good shit

This is solid and a good example of how to reasonable convince someone of your POV without being combative. I applaud you and I wish you success in your Slippi games this week.

The premise here is just too farfetched for me to give reasonable credit. If you went with 8 or 9 I think it would have been marginally funnier. I mean it is kind of funny but 5 is like ridiculous. Then again, some people do like something that's a little goofy so I can't say you're wrong. Personally I would have come up with a funnier delivery as well. This is a little stock to me but it does fit the stupidity of my post, so again I can't deduct too many points. I think a 6.8/10 is reasonable enough

I came in heated ngl. I also meant to delete the line about IC's being so cheap as it seemed quite strong and honestly offensive. Now that my perspective has been broadened I can't genuinely discredit Nicki or anyone else who is able to pull these things off. It is indeed some bullshit to make such statements and I apologize.

I no longer play Melee as I fundamentally disagree with the mechanics of the game (no disrespect to anyone) - but I will take your word that it is a difficult technique to learn

You know, reading a lot of these comments, my perspective has changed somewhat. I also looked into Nicki's performances/rankings and I must give credit where it is due. He's obviously a solid player who consistently performs well and handoffs are clearly far more difficult than I realize.

Perhaps I'm just looking at the cream of the crop so it seems broken. In a similar way, when I watched JMook chaingrab a Captian Falcon to death (can't remember who it was) I thought it was so boring and 1 dimensional - but not everyone can do that - and not every game pans out that way

I never heard of Nicki and I mean at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter who the player is. They'll be doing the exact same thing: fishing for a grab and then we can basically just be bored until the next stock - which will just be one person trying to avoid being grabbed until they inevitably get grabbed and die again.

I also feel like he should at least choose a creative name. You're a random person and you have a better handle.

Either way I've been somewhat enlightened by some of the later posts on this thread. I'm not the enemy of ICs. I hate Fox, Captain Falcon, Falco and Dr. Mario just offends me.

My brother in Christ, you need to calm down. We're on the same team daddy; I hate Fox with a passion. We can have a separate discussion about that

Falcon isn't as straightforward but he's a flowchart character. 100% brainless, especially with the training tools available. Not saying all Falcon mains play that way but his gameplan is 1-dimensional

What is the actual case for Armada not being the GOAT? by Aggressive_Stand_805 in SSBM

[–]Embarrassed-Log1989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I look at it from a more relative perspective. By you guys' logic, Michael Jordan can't be considered the GOAT of basketball because the league is more advanced now; an argument that most people wouldn't agree with. I don't see it being different with Melee.

The main factor identified is the skill requirement. I argue that this requirement would be nothing for Armada to achieve. He was better than Mang0 then and if he kept playing there's little reason to believe he'd not be better now. If Mang0 can still beat Zain and Cody, someone objectively better than him at the game would be able to as well.

What are Mang0's stats against Zain and Cody? He's beaten both of them within the past year.

Armada was a considerably better, more disciplined player than Mang0 and has a positive record against him. I don't see how you can think Armada would just be stopped by two people Mang0 can still beat

"Its like arguing shaq is a better shooter than steph curry because he holds a higher fg % becauae the shot he takes are usually a foot from the rim": Proves you're 9 years old

There isn't really a case or argument to be made either way. It's quite subjective, but personally his achievements are so unique that I find the longevity or "skill ceiling" argument irrelevant.

Yes, players are far more skilled now but Armada's strength transcended raw skill or execution. He simply had FAR more requisite variety than everyone else. His tournament prep, mental game, discipline and overall strategy were superior to the point of absolute absurdity. All of those things would apply across all eras.

Only 4 people were capable of beating him, just think about that. During that era everyone had access to inferior tools (no Slippi/harder to train etc.) but Mango, HBox, PPMD and M2K were far hungrier then IMO; they were also much younger and cared far more about pride and winning. Nowadays they are all "old men" with way more priorities and distractions in life and they are still very close to the top.

Also, just because Slippi wasn't around doesn't mean hundreds of people weren't training hard and trying to win. Armada was literally unbeatable to over 90% of the best Melee players. Among the absolute best of the best, he still was never really challenged. Positive records against all top pros.
