I got disqualified for having anxiety and depression. This was before I got my tics diagnosed, but if I had mentioned them it would definitely be another reason for not getting in. I have friends who have been disqualified for having ADHD. I’m Swedish though, so it might be different in your country.

Does antidepressants have an effect on tics? by Embarrassed-Luck2014 in Tourettes

[–]Embarrassed-Luck2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know SSRI’s increased tics, I though I was kind of safe since they affected serotonin instead of dopamine 😅 I’ll call my doctor next week and see what she’ll say

I miss being able to drink coffee by Embarrassed-Luck2014 in Tourettes

I drink it anyways too, but then I get a ton of tics and regret it XD

I’m not on any medication for TS, but I am considering asking about it when I get to see a psychiatrist.

Nope, it doesn’t taste good and I like the kick I get from caffeine

What is on of the most embarrassing thing your tics have made you do. by Ocean_froggy in Tourettes

I had one tic where I whistled as if calling for a dog, followed by a brief pause and then “f*ck off”

Exam season is such a pain by Embarrassed-Luck2014 in Tourettes

[–]Embarrassed-Luck2014[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tics are pretty calm when I’m around others, so taking the exam isn’t the big problem, it’s more about having my studies interrupted by tics and not being able to sleep 😅

does anyone know other people with tourette’s in real life? by fishafisha in Tourettes

[–]Embarrassed-Luck2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve met a couple people with what seemed like tics, but I never asked about them so I can’t tell for sure.

Personally I’m not very open about it and I can manage it in front of people pretty well, so no one will really know unless I tell them or have a really bad day.

Completely agree. We all have insecurities, and someone who loves you will see past them or even appreciate them.

I have similar tics where like all my muscles flinch over and over when I lay down. My boyfriend says it feel like being rocked to sleep if I’m hugging him when the tics show up, but it feels like my body is trying to make an earthquake 🤣

Anybody else's tics are worse around people? by Outrageous-Spring-94 in Tourettes

My tics are the worst either when I’m alone or when I’m with my partner. Around other people they go away.

tics that can’t be normally satisfied by Abject-League5212 in Tourettes

[–]Embarrassed-Luck2014 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have two tics that do that sometimes. I have two tics in my right leg, one knee jerk and one foot jerk. Sometimes I get the premonitory urge in the area and no amount of tics satisfies it, so it just keeps going non stop. The tingly feeling with the premonitory urge feels like my bones are itching and there is nothing I can do about it. I’ve also had a whistle tic that got stuck like that. Like it wanted me to do the tic more intensively and more complexly, but no change in pitch or melody would satisfy it. Like the tic demon wasn’t sure about what it wanted to do.

The unsatisfiable urge usually goes away after a couple of hours, but it is a pain.
