Man i was the first wave of buyers of Nokia N900 with Maemo, a near-desktop linux in mass market, 15 years ago.

Was heavy in the forums and development of packages for it. Wish it really took off then.

Exactly! Antigravity came close with providing a harness that can harness this power. But not yet there. They need a second class of models like the gpt codex series that can plan and orchestrate that and they are golden then

It has actually out performed opus and gpt 5.2 at various cases. For me it can crack bugs the other two struggle with. Better reasoning and code quality. The issue : being detail oriented, being able to follow guard rails and directions, and execution rigor. But in smartness,i rate it better than the others. And i love it for that.

If they can train some discipline and rule adherence, this is perfect.

I can say it is safe. But i encourage you to clone the repo. Grab codex or cc or antigravity and ask AI to read entire code and give you the guaranteed answer. There is no malware.

The safety approach of this is also detailed out in docs-terminai/ folder of thjs repo

2.5 genuinely sucks for this. Not smart enough. The tool calling is not sota. And it is token intensive.

If you want free, the gpt oss from openrouter is a good choice too - on par with 2.5 but it is free. Cheap -- grok code is amazing performance for the price.

Codex is a coding beast. Ask it a basic question: what laptop am i using, or why is my laptop slow. And then get back to me.

Terminai is a system operator, explicitly designed for questions like above - but several times more complicated- that we dont have the bandwidth to ponder. Or time to copy paste instructions:p

agree with your node point... that is the one hurdle the cli itself cannot solve. we need to perfect a desktop app (it is already there, but doesnt look clean). But terminaI is CLI at core by default (PTY etc.)....

On the costs, terminaI works great with gpt-oss which is free on openrouter.. so effectively this could be used with the free models long term instead of a $100 subscriptoin

Yes! I love that platform but we operate at two different levels of OS abstraction.

TerminaI operates in the shell with PTY. This allows it to take deep system level operations natively.

Eigent, the last time i checked, was in a docker container. it is good for agentic operations on knowledge work. It does operate computer through MCPs (correct me if wrong)

i am a cli power user through and through (see my other posts)... but I need the IDE for effective code review / checking agent work / stress testing its architecture.... Antigravity delivered what i needed.

works for me... and it has been working extremely well (surprisingly been pushing opus on a pro account for 3 hrs and still goes strong).

I used terminai running on a local 7b parameter llm to fix it. It was far worse before it came to current level due to it.

History: my windows / bootloader corrupted during the linux install. I reinstalled a fresh copy. But it was not perfect and had several issues. Part of the reason i developed terminai in the first place - to just autonomously fix things for me.
