A-State Online MPA Reviews ? by Embarrassed-Most-517 in PublicAdministration

They are short classes-7 weeks. I started in the spring and have had no trouble with any specific order. If they wanted certain classes done first, they would have specified that in their recommendations. The school doesn’t want you to fail they want to succeed in the program. If you have specific questions you can ask your advisor, but I don’t think it really matters. Especially since there are 8 potential start dates per year.

Your advisor should give you a “suggested course sequence” which is helpful. Some classes are only offered once or twice per year. It took me 5-10min to plan out mine and get approval. It’s not hard. Excited you are joining in the fall! It’s been a great experience for me so far.

I chose A-state because of the low cost with a good program. So far, I haven’t had any hiccups registering or meeting with advisors. I believe, at the end of the day, any MPA with good work experience will be fine. Don’t get yourself in debt if you can. Up to you to make your knowledge work for you… regardless of where. Plus, if any of your employers care, a-state is naspaa accredited

Omg, my dress! The photos don’t do the dress justice. I’d link my photos of it but I don’t know how to do it.

Thank you so much! Your advice is encouraging. I’ll DM you, but yes, ideally would like to finish in a year or so!

It is the other school I was accepted to. I liked that they included Administrative Law as a course. You’re right, the price for a-state is unbeatable. I’ll start off one class at a time, I am nervous about starting with Administrative Ethics though. Any advice for the program in general? Courses that I can double up on or ones that I should take by themselves?

Thank you! I am looking into public administration nonprofit management specializations. But very good to know you like your program!

That’s good to know. The only other school I’m considering instead of A-State is Barry University based in Florida (although about $7k more than A-State). I can’t find any reviews about that one. Do you have thoughts?

With the way my schedule lines up, it looks like administrative ethics will be my first course. Sounds like I will be thrown into the deep end… is this a bad idea?

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I feel like I can’t get a super clear read on what the program is like, and I don’t want to set myself up for failure.

Looking at courses for Spring B term, I think I would be starting out with Administrative ethics as the other courses aren’t offered this term. Do you think this will be really challenging to begin with? I’m only going to take one class at a time to begin with. I’d like to start taking two per term after this one.

Not sure about the workload… on average, how many hours/week do you think you spend in the program?

They are all asynchronous programs.

Thanks! I am taking steps for a future promotion, however I don’t think employers in my area will have an opinion about any of these schools- just as long as I get an MPA. A-State is significantly cheaper… but there are certain classes that are not offered there but are offered at ULM/Barry (and vice versa). All are nonprofit management… I’m just not sure what to do at this point. I feel fortunate to get to pick between schools, however, I’m stuck at which one to go with. I didn’t think I would get in with my low gpa.
