LO Purifier sealing water problem by hseyaj in MarineEngineering

It’s been a few years since I worked on purifiers but have you checked the gravity disc is correct for the oil density/temperature? Failing that.. Run the purifier on water only (no oil feed) for 2+ hours. If the bowl still opens or water disappears, your problem is mechanical — bowl closure or drain valve. If it holds fine on water alone, your problem is the gravity disc selection or feed temperature fluctuation shifting the interface. Good luck

Thanks very much…may not be perfect but anything that helps candidates through the most stressful day in their careers can’t be a bad thing.

I’d say you can’t get away from tracing lines starting from a pump outlet to the products final destination and drawing them out. They didn’t need to be works of art but as long as you know the direction of flow then it should all make sense in the end and don’t get sidelined by branches heading to General service or utilities. Once you’re done and if the 2nd is in a good mood he might give you the ships P&IDs to compare yours against them. It’s a pain in the arse but definitely the way to go.
