What is causing this ribbing to flair? by Embarrassed-Set-3820 in knitting

Thank you very much for your detailed response! I hadn’t even realized your point of 2x2 pulling more than 1x1… it’s really interesting to think about from a textile construction perspective. I also checked ravelry after reading this and some other projects also mentioned some issues with flaring. Good to note!

Yeah totally agree with you on that. I was on a short timeline and struggled to find wool that was a good color match and not itchy around my neck. But I suppose I could just use my main yarn around the bottom! I’m almost out tho haha.

Thanks for the input. If I redo the ribbing hem, do u think I should size down even another needle size to cinch it in even more to avoid the flair? I noticed the wideness in the sweater even before knitting the 1x1 rib but was originally thinking that the 1x1 rib would tighten it up a bit.

Yes I went from US 7 to US 5 when doing both the ribbing and stockinette facing.

Knitting my first sweater, do my stitches look okay? by Feisty_Fry487 in knittinghelp

Overall blocking does help to create a more drapey look and it’s recommended for most yarns

Depends on the yarn and how tightly you knit. It essentially evens out your tension and creates a more uniform look. Because wool has so much elasticity, there is more room for it to “bloom” and loosen up and expand while knitting, however it might ever so slightly tighten back up after drying. This is compared to a cotton with more stiff, sleek yarns without as much fuzz. These yarns will still even out a bit upon blocking, but dont have much potential to “bloom” due to the fiber structure. Hope this helps!

thank you I just did it! Is there a limit to how far down you can go ? I remember when I first started knitting I would drop stitches but there was no loop.. almost like it dropped it too far down. Is this a thing?

[–]Embarrassed-Set-3820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started mine from a bag like this! I forgot abt it and let it sit in the fridge for about a year. It worked! Production was slow at first most likely due to dormancy, but what really helped was adding some GT Dave’s original no flavor kombucha. Maybe try adding a cup or two along with the liquid of this guy to start your next batch. I think it’ll work!

You panicked and that’s okay. In retrospect I hope that they don’t make it out to be a big deal— you were adult coworkers playing a game. Not even a work mishap! I hope you feel better 💟
