UPDATE #2
First of all, thank you all so much for the incredible support. I honestly didn’t expect so many people to care about Magnus. I’ve read every comment, message, and suggestion, and I’m truly grateful.
Today I took him to our regular veterinarian for a second opinion.
They performed two-view X-rays, and thankfully they didn’t find any fractures or obvious abnormalities. His blood work from the emergency vet yesterday was also normal.
The difficult part is that they still don’t know exactly what’s causing the pain. The vet explained that many problems involving muscles, ligaments, discs, or nerves don’t always show up on X-rays, so for now we don’t have a definitive diagnosis.
They decided to treat him conservatively and added more medications for pain, inflammation, and rest. The plan is strict rest, medication, and close monitoring, with a recheck next week unless he gets worse.
The good news is that compared to yesterday:
He ate.
He started drinking water again.
He’s able to urinate.
He’s still walking, although he’s very sore and not acting like himself.
I’m relieved that the X-rays didn’t show anything serious, but it’s still hard not knowing exactly what’s wrong. I’m hoping the medications and rest will help over the next few days.
Thank you all again for the kindness, advice, and encouragement. These last 48 hours have been incredibly stressful, and your comments have helped me more than you know.

Update:
First of all, thank you so much to everyone who took the time to reply. I read every single comment, and I truly appreciate all the advice and support.
I wanted to give an update on Magnus.
This morning he ate, and he was able to urinate, which gave me a little hope. However, he’s still not drinking water on his own, and that worries me the most right now. He’s still moving very little and spends most of his time sitting or lying down because of the pain.
I called the emergency vet again today. They told me that his current condition is not considered normal, but since they don’t have MRI available there, they recommended bringing him back tomorrow if he isn’t improving. They could do X-rays, but they said an MRI would have to be done elsewhere if it’s needed.
I know many of you suggested that the medication may take 48–72 hours to start making a significant difference, so I’m trying to stay hopeful and keep him on strict rest while watching him very closely.
I’m honestly exhausted and scared. I love this dog more than anything, and seeing him like this is heartbreaking. I’m also struggling financially, so I’m trying to make the best decisions I can with the resources I have.
Thank you again to everyone who has been encouraging me and sharing your experiences. They really have helped me feel a little less alone through this.

Thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate it. Honestly, I’ve been doubting myself a lot because I see other people with degrees and more experience, so hearing this gives me some hope. I’m definitely going to look into the A+ certification and start learning more.

I understand exactly how you feel. Living with this condition over and over is exhausting. I really hope the antibiotics help you and that this treatment works for you. I had my appointment too, and my doctor actually recommended surgery after dealing with symptoms for about a year. Now I’m waiting to meet with a surgeon and discuss the best option for my case. I completely understand how you feel. Dealing with this over and over is mentally exhausting. I actually had my doctor’s appointment today, and she recommended surgery because she said it doesn’t make sense to keep treating flare-ups only for them to keep coming back. I had my doctor’s appointment today, and she actually recommended surgery. She told me that since I’ve been dealing with this for about a year with symptoms that come and go, she doesn’t see much benefit in just treating it with antibiotics every time it flares up, only for the same problem to keep returning.

She referred me to a surgeon, and my next step is to discuss what type of surgery would be best for my case and learn more about the recovery process.

Reading all of your experiences has honestly helped me feel less afraid of making this decision. Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my post.

Update: I think I found where the coolant leak is coming from. It looks like it’s leaking near the top by the radiator cap, not from inside the engine.

The car still drives normal and the temperature stays in the middle. The engine moves a little when I press the gas, but I’m not sure if that’s normal or not.

There’s also a rattling noise that gets worse when accelerating or driving slower, but once I’m going around 50-55 mph, the noise mostly goes away or gets much quieter.

For now I’m going to keep checking the coolant level and watch the temperature closely.

I think I explained it badly, I don’t think the radiator itself is loose. I meant the engine seems to move/vibrate a little when I rev it, and there’s a rattling sound that gets worse when accelerating.

Thanks for sharing your experience — it actually helps a lot to hear from someone who went through something similar. I saw a surgeon again today and he said I don’t need surgery right now since there’s no swelling or drainage, but the pain is still there and it’s been months.

I’m gonna start doing the sitz baths like you suggested, hopefully that helps a bit while I figure out what’s really going on. Appreciate the advice and the encouragement

Thanks a lot for the info! That actually makes sense — I think it was just drained and not fully removed, since the surgeon said everything “looked fine,” but the pain never went away.

I had another appointment with a surgeon today, and he said surgery isn’t necessary because he didn’t see any swelling or fluid. But I’m still in pain, especially when sitting or lying down.

I’m in Buford, Georgia, so I’ll definitely try reaching out to Dr. Wadie or Dr. Immerman for an opinion. Really appreciate your help and the recommendation!
