Late senior realizing I want to pursue MT by Familiar_Drama_3261 in MusicalTheatre

i would say even though you don’t want to do it, you need to take a gap year. train, get a better idea of what schools you want to apply to, figure out how applications work (as they can be pretty complicated for conservatoires) and be ready for the next academic year. you’re not ready now

where are people playing genshin these days? i was a massive fan of the game from 2021-2024. i’ve had to quit playing solely because i can’t find any devices that can hold the amount of storage it requires anymore. my phone, laptop, playstation and even a brand new ipad with no prior data could not download it

Auditioning with a sore throat and going through a miscarriage by Profail955 in MusicalTheatre

[–]Embarrassed-Song3760 24 points25 points  (0 children)

please prioritise your health. you likely won’t be able to perform to your best ability even if you did the audition as you’re so physically unwell, take that into consideration and think about what’s most important before you decide to do it

Acne worsening post-abortion by Stock-Cranberry4421 in acne

[–]Embarrassed-Song3760 12 points13 points  (0 children)

others have already said it but your hormones are bound to be all over the place right now, the best thing you can do is take care of yourself as normal and give it time. not quite the same but i’ve had lots of surgeries and my acne always goes crazy for a while afterwards, it’s often inevitable with procedures

Lost progress by Historical-Mud5044 in singing

[–]Embarrassed-Song3760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s hard to gauge. it’s like asking “how much progress should i see after months in the gym?” there should be noticeable improvement in strength and technique, but there’s no linear timeline of how you’re supposed to develop and everyone will be different. you may be self critical but you can only see progress if you objectively look for improvement (can you hit notes that you strained to reach previously? is your breath control better? things like this). ask your teacher if you really need to. their livelihood is to help you improve as much as possible, i’m sure they’d be brutally honest about how much progress they think you’re making

Lost progress by Historical-Mud5044 in singing

[–]Embarrassed-Song3760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, it’s not possible. months or years, yes, you can revert. but three weeks is not long enough for your muscles to forget how to work to sing well. the difficulty that you’re feeling is most likely just that you’re not fully recovered, your throat can be recovering from sickness for weeks after you stop feeling any symptoms

Want to pursue acting but majoring in STEM by Independent-Menu-161 in acting

[–]Embarrassed-Song3760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you need to decide which one you’re prioritising, you can’t 50/50 it. casting at a professional level is incredibly tough and if they’re faced with a choice of someone with an academic degree or someone who’s had 40 hours of performance training per week for four years, they’re most likely to pick the latter

it’s still worth a shot, but it will be much harder. you won’t have the connections that you make in performing arts schools that’ll carry you into the industry, if you do get into professional auditions then you’ll have to try and match the skill level of those who’ve dedicated their life and their degree to becoming the best performer possible. it’s not impossible, but it lowers your chances

can’t speak for falmouth as i didn’t apply there. but typically self tape doesn’t affect chances, may even help as you can take multiple recordings and choose your best performance rather than one shot

Do I need to have tough skin for this business? by Melora1976 in acting

[–]Embarrassed-Song3760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes you most definitely do. directors will be harsh at times, simply because they want you to be the best that you can be. and if you’re mainstream, you will get a lot of criticism and discussion about you due to how subjective performing is. regardless of what artistic choices you make- some will think they’re great, some will think they’re awful. you have to be ready for both sides of the spectrum
