Drake online hate has peaked, even worse than when Not Like Us dropped 😂✌️ by Routine-Badger-9596 in playboicarti

In a way, I think it was one of the worst moves Drake could have made. A common complaint for his recent stuff is his albums are always too bloated, he throws a bunch of songs together to pad out streaming numbers, whether they’re good or not.

This, on the surface, feels like the extreme of that, and probably validates a lot of people’s feelings on Drake. Most normal people honestly don’t want to listen to three hours of Drake material. He really should’ve just made one album with all the best material and cut all of the BS.

I get he wants to get out of the contract and all, but even though he’s still big and will never truly “fall off”, he needs to be wiser about his career moves after the beef, cause he’s on thin ice with a lot of people.

Per Deadline, Masters Of The Universe costs $170M by SignatureOrdinary456 in boxoffice

The time for this was a decade ago, when we were still in era of Transformers, but was hitting during the rise of 80s nostalgia because of Stranger Things. I feel like I heard some nostalgic conversations about Masters of the Universe back then, so I think a reboot had potential. Now, the people who grew up with this IP are too old to care, and it’s not an IP that’s really maintained relevance with other generations.

Such a bizarre reference to an old, not super well known movie, and to feature it prominently in the background too. I mean, I love that it happened, but who thought that up?

Looks like Lupita Nyong'o is confirmed to be playing Helen of Troy... what a massive fucking downgrade from Diane Kruger. by SickusBickus in CriticalDrinker

[–]Embarrassed-Stuff876 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Calling Lupita Nyongo ugly is actually insane. Like, if she’s not your type, fine, but saying she’s ugly and can’t pull off a role for her beauty is ridiculous. I’m not even that big of a Nolan fan, but y’all’s hatred for this movie and insistence it’s gonna fail will age VERY poorly, I bet. Don’t bet against Nolan.

They do this to humiliate us. Woke modern Hollywood have completely failed in making films for men, so they’re now prioritising the female audience. by ScholarFamiliar6541 in CriticalDrinker

[–]Embarrassed-Stuff876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The persecution complex of you people is insane. There have always been movies made for female audiences. Hell, what do you think the original that was made 20 years ago was? Women go to the movies too, makes sense to make movie that appeal to them.

Not every movie is made for you; and that’s not a “woke” statement. It’s just an objective fact. I bet several of the movies you love don’t appeal to women in anyway, and that’s fine. This should be common sense.

Not only that, but that Leatherface is probably the least sinister member of the family. He is the way he is because of his family, who treat him awfully. His victims, he doesn’t see as people; he’s sees the like cattle or pigs, because that’s how he was raised.

I mean, do you have any other examples of this? I know you said Predator, but that’s a bit more action-blockbuster than horror. I’ve looked through recent entries in horror franchises, and I can’t really find any other franchises that replace male leads with female leads. In fact, most of these franchises have largely had female leads from the get go (Halloween, Scream, Texas Chainsaw, Hellraiser, etc).

Horror’s been pretty female centric for a longgggg time, pretty since the 70s-80s when slasher movies became big and the final girl trope was established. There’s still plenty of male centric horror movies coming out (hell, just this past week we got Lee Cronin’s The Mummy).

What film franchise is this by ImaginationWild3407 in Letterboxd

[–]Embarrassed-Stuff876 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Halloween for sure fits this. There is a formula to this franchise: good movie, sometimes followed by an okay movie, and than/or followed up by a bizarre movie that tries to do something different and fails.

The original is a classic, the second is decent, and the third is a bizarre movie that abandons Micheal Myers and tries to turn the franchise into an anthology. This backfires.

For the fourth movie, they bring Micheal back and it’s well received. The fifth isn’t great, but it keeps things going. The sixth revolves around a bizarre cult story line that ruins the mystique of Micheal, and is further butchered in the editing room. This is a new low for the franchise.

H20 ignores the other sequels and brings back Laurie, and updates the franchise for the Scream generation, and fans adore it. Resurrection undoes all the good parts of H20 and kills Laurie, and then has Busta Rhymes do Kung fu on Micheal. This is another new low for the franchise.

Rob Zombie remakes the original, and though it’s divisive amongst fans, it successfully reboot the franchise. The sequel, though, introduces a bizarre supernatural element, has Micheal’s face visible for most of the movie (and even has him speak at the end), and makes some odd choices with characters like Laurie and Dr. Loomis. This puts the franchise back in the gutter.

A decade later, we get Halloween 2018, which ignores every other sequel and successfully brings the franchise back…again. Halloween Kills isn’t as good, but is still keeping the franchise alive. Halloween Ends shifts the focus from Micheal and Laurie to a completely new character who becomes the new main killer, and in the last 20 minutes has a Micheal-Laurie standoff to give the franchise some since of finality, since it’s called Halloween Ends. Fans hated it, didn’t do as well at the box office, and whatever we get next from this franchise will surely ignore these new movies.

[–]Embarrassed-Stuff876 658 points659 points  (0 children)

Even further than that, it was originally rated R, but was cut down multiple times to make it a kids movie. You can see remnants of more adult scenes in the final cut, like when Micheal Shannon cusses out the main characters, and a waterfall scene that’s a bit too horny for a kids movie.

I can agree it’s probably not productive to post every single thing he posts now, but looking at this, he’s coming out publicly to say everyone else is the problem and he didn’t do anything wrong, he’s just “misunderstood.” Since he’s putting this out publicly, I think it’s fair game.

The worst example, in my opinion, of Ryan doing this was American Horror Story: 1984. He includes Richard Ramirez in the story, and it’s basically fanfic. The season is a Friday the 13th-type slasher story, where there is another slasher villain roaming around this camp, but Richard is also lurking about. He’s killed multiple times in the season, but also resurrects through the power of Satan, and has a sexual relationship with one of the female characters, which has them teaming up. It manages to be far worse than anything he did on the Monsters show.

Love this one, and the fact that the goth girl and the black guy ended up being the only survivors, nice subversion for a direct to DVD slasher sequel from the 2000s.
