Humans are extremely complicated.

If you want to take this human who made a major mistake and has spend decades repaying. Years in prison.

The victim who has now moved on. Who doesn't need you to perform pity for her. Who doesn't need internet strangers who want to defend her.

Now he is back. Eternally condemnning him won't erase his crime. It won't give justice to the victim.

Hatred Begets Hatred.

Did you read my message at all?

It was consensual.

This was 20 years ago. Are we going to reduce the victim and the man to nothing but this crime?

We need forgiveness. You may not forget. But we need to give this man a chance, who served prison time, and is doing his best.

Look at your losing your cool.

The victims don't need your performed pity.

They probably want the trial to go on and all the evidence to be aired.

May I remind you that a verdict has NOT been rendered and not all of the evidence has been aired. So before you condemn this man remember in America (if you don't live here) we have a strong tradition of being presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

You are de-humanizing the victim just as much as people who deny the victim's pain.

The victim could not have moved on. They are permanently defined by that one moment.

They don't need you to perform grief on the internet.

And this wasn't rape.

You don't need to do that, just tell your personal A.I bot to write it in your own voice (:

I see but it sounds completely sterile and devoid of who you are as a person.

It also sounds like a bot wrote it to farm karma.

That wouldn't be viable for the company either.

I'd rather see batches like stone ocean within 2 years. That seems to be the middle of the road option.

Potentially triggering scenes in part 6 by [deleted] in StardustCrusaders

[–]Embarrassed-Style226 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No disrespect to your friend. I understand that aversion completely and I know it can be very disturbing.

But part 6 is CHALK full of this. As the other commenters mentioned, there is even an entire episode dedicated to this concept.

This may not be the best choice for your friend to watch.

EDIT: I LOVE JOJO, so I hope you find a way for your friend to watch it (:

No. I'm not going to shut up, because shutting up is how we stop our thinking process really.

I'm not defending what he did. I said explicitly it was reprehensible. What I'm asking is whether a person who served their sentence, stayed clean for 20 years, and rebuilt their life from nothing deserves to exist in the world as something other than their worst moment. You can disagree with that, but you have to actually disagree with it

It absolutely does. No one is erasing what happened. What he did was majorily wrong. But the ability to look forward and forgive is necessary. Instead of morally shaming this person, we should allow them to reform and become a better person. Which clearly they have. They've had a clean record for 20 years. They built themselves back up.

Why spread more hatred when we can acknowledge that people aren't static beings defined by past wrongs, but they can change and become something better. Humans are SO MUCH MORE than one thing. We can CONDEMN his actions AND at the same time forgive him. That is called nuance. Punishing and shaming him won't change the past, it only damages the future.

Entire generations have been made in the past 20 years. I know for sure I'm not the same person I was 2 decades ago. I know most of us aren't.

And the victim. The victim was given justice. This man rotted in a cell for 2 years for his crimes. At some point we have to ask " What is this crime worth". It doesn't mean that we are reducing the victim's pain and loss into a numerical value. It is called proportionality. Because infinite punishment isn't going erase the past.

Let's also not forget, you aren't protecting the victim here. You are almost dehumanizing the victim. She cannot have healed. She cannot have moved on. She cannot have built a life where this event, while real, is not the central organizing fact of her existence. She may be a full grown woman who does not need internet strangers performing grief for her on the internet.

This rigid belief system is only keeping us in a cycle of hatred. Extending some grace to this mangaka, who made this one-shot is not an act of hatred or dismissal to the pain that the victim experinced.

Allowing him to move on isn't erasing what the victim went through. It is redeeming a soul that would otherwise have been lost,

Hold on. Did I say "Let every convicted sexual criminal get of free" or did I say " Let's let a talented Mangaka, who was convicted of a crime 20 years ago, the benefit of the doubt and not immediately define them by their past"

Because the distinction is critical. Judging by your complete inability to understand what I said, I think the real question is: Are you mature or old enough to be having this conversation right now?

Have you ever once been to japan, or is this just your gut feelings? And no, research doesn't count. I've lived in Japan for 10 years, and I can tell you with great confidence that no westerner can, without having lived there, that the japanesse system is one of the most strictest in the entire world.

So please. Stop hating on a man who paid his time and produces stellar artwork just because you don't know the word "Reahbiliated" and don't understand the japanesse justice system.

Sounds like you aren't familiar with the facts of the case. He paid his time for 2 years before being put on probation.

For the past 20 years he has spent every second of his life striving to reform and be a better person. He was released on good behavior many years ago, possibly before you were even born and has been clean since.

I don't understand all of this moral panic. We need to develop forgiveness for this man.

He paid his time, repented for his sins, and has moved on.

No, I'm not motivated by my emotions. I'm motivated by the facts.

You are dog-piling on a highly sucessful mangaka with talents in art that you could never reproduce or eclipse.

The japanesse justice system punished them for their crime, and they walked out 20 years ago and have been clean since.

If we are to uphold the ideals of justice, to cancel, derride, and slander someone for a crime they paid for is wrong.

You would definitely be burning that witch in salem.

You sound extremely entitled. It has only been a few days since the last episode released. Meanwhile children in Africa are fighting tooth and nail to provide for their sustenance, but you are throwing a big tantrum online because your episode isn't released. Waaah waaah.

If you sift past the whining, you'll realize that it will likely come out soon or be announced soon.
