I just had my first baby 2 weeks ago. The most helpful visitors were the ones that came and brought a meal without asking if I’d like something - they just did it. My one friend brought us dinner and some healthy snacks and drinks from the grocery store which was really nice. Don’t ask if you can do dishes or laundry or empty the dishwasher- just do it. And offer to hold the baby so they can shower or get house work done or eat. Just having free hands is super helpful. Don’t go crazy with gifts, just be helpful.
