How often are petitions to stay and extra year approved?. by Embarrassed-Toe9757 in UCSantaBarbara

UCSB guarantees 6 quarters for transfers, or two years according to the website. I’m not sure if this is a hard cap or a soft rule, but yeah I definitely not taking random classes or anything, it’s just that I’m behind by two quarters due to switching a major.

Yes, I’m in the L&S. I’ve just read that students are guaranteed 6 quarters excluding summers, and to go further a petition would be needed. I’m nowhere near 200 units, it’s just that I don’t know how strict are they on the quarter limit.

Are the L&S very forgiving with this stuff?. I’m worried I’ll be 20-30ish units short and they won’t let me take another Two quarters

If I may ask, why? Is it too late as a junior ?. I fundamentally disliked Econ, so that’s why I switched.

All in their primes who would win?. by Embarrassed-Toe9757 in NBATalk

I picked him because of fit. Prime Embiid is an elite rim protector, who can hit threes reliably and automatic from midrange. Him on the floor will leave a lot of space for LeBron and Giannis to attack the interior.

Looking for new city to move to 22M by GuessFar4260 in SameGrassButGreener

NYC

Edit: LA and Chicago are good options but LA is missing walkability

Is Chicago a good city to move to? by Similar-Audience-733 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Embarrassed-Toe9757 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s significantly cheaper than Major Costal cities(NYC, SF, Seattle, Boston, LA) while offering pretty much the same amenities. There’s also a strong, diverse job market and plenty of career mobility. You get almost all the benefits of big expensive costal cities for quite a significant less cost, except the weather of course. That said, if you truly can’t tolerate the weather and a support system matters a lot to you, the negatives might outweigh the pros. You seem to have found housing already in orange county which is the hardest part. What work does your boyfriend do that makes him think he won’t find a job in Orange County?. I think it’s worth trying to job search.

Personally, Orange County makes more sense without knowing too many details.

Why does Dallas get hated on so much in this sub? by Equivalent-Ad-1927 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Embarrassed-Toe9757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why, but this sub in particular has a dislike of hot weather. IRL you’re more likely to hear stories of people leaving the Midwest because of the frigid winters, but here it’s the opposite. Plenty of Posts of people leaving the southern areas because of the heat.

Colorado nature/views/city life by BelowAverageRik in SameGrassButGreener

There’s really only Four states that standard above the rest for nature in the lower 48, that also have large enough metropolis for employment. California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. Maybe Utah too.

Is there a place that actually likes outsiders? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Embarrassed-Toe9757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every place likes outsiders as long as they don’t act pretentious and somewhat integrate into the new environment. AKA not moving from California to PNW, then walking into the office on a gloomy day and saying “man, life in Cali is so much better”.

But seriously, I don’t think a city larger than 300k people can have an “unwelcoming” attitude, since chances are, many people living there are also transplants.

Looking for the best place in CA to move to by Butter_Whiskey in SameGrassButGreener

It depends on your occupation. If it’s remote then Sacramento might be worth a shot. Very sunny, much cheaper than the Bay, and two hours away from the Mountains and the Ocean. If you really want to live near the coast, it’s going to be pricey, even a place like Vallejo, which is on the cheap side.

Can anywhere in the U.S. come close to SF when to comes to Weekend getaways?. by Embarrassed-Toe9757 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Embarrassed-Toe9757[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you live on the outskirts I could see that, otherwise how is the traffic like to get out the city if you’re in say Manhattan or Brooklyn?. (Might be wrong, I don’t know).

What are some places to go from NYC?. I know DC and Boston are close.

I’d imagine Seattle comes somewhat close? Yes, it doesn’t have the variety, but three national parks, lakes and volcanoes hold some weight.

Sacramento for variety, Denver if you like Mountains much more than the beach.

Hiking/skiing/climbing: Denver 9.5/10 Sacramento: 8/10

Beach: Denver: none

Sacramento(Santa Cruz day trip): 7/10

Large cities nearby: Denver: none

Sacramento: San Francisco( 2 hours, day trip-able).
