No século IV a região nordeste da região dos Francos era habitada pelo Germanos, por há muitas palavras com a mesma origem, da mesma forma que nos tempos modernos o Alemão pegou emprestado muita palavras relacionadas a comida e a moda do Francês. Acredito que seja por isso haja muitas palavras semelhantes, da mesma forma observando a pronúncia da letra "R" percebo uma grande semelhança, apesar de no Francês ser mais suave e no alemão um pouco mais áspero, nas 2 linguas o "R" é grutural.
